A (Mostly!) Good Election Night for Progressives

Share With Friends

Despite the bad news out of PA-15 and the special election in HD-134, the primary election results were a pretty solid show of progressive strength.

Let’s get the negatives out of the way:

In PA-15, Democrats nominated Rick Daugherty, a candidate with no money and no organization, who amazingly managed to run to the right of his opponent Jackson Eaton, a former Republican. There’s no chance Daugherty beats Charlie Dent in November. Too bad.

I was also really hoping Patrick Slattery would beat Ryan Mackenzie in the special election in HD-134, but no dice. I had managed my expectations for a win there though, given the big Republican registration advantage.

Fortunately, that’s it for the bad news! And the good news is all very good. Consider:

– Democrats won 5 of the 6 special elections.

– Barack Obama got more votes in the Democratic primary than Mitt Romney got in the Republican primary:

Obama: 608,988

Romney: 464,357

– PA-17: Progressive Matt Cartwright knocked off Blue Dog Tim Holden, and the November election will be a walk

– PA-12: Slightly-more-progressive Mark Critz beat Fox News Democrat Jason Altmire

– HD-182: Brian Sims became the first openly gay state legislator in PA, after defeating Babette Josephs in a squeaker

– HD-22: Progressive Erin Molchany beat Party-backed Martin Schmotzer

– HD-49: EqualityPA-endorsed Sean Wiley beat John Harkins by 12 points

– Dem AG: I didn’t really have a strong opinion about the AG primary, but I’m going to love it if the first elected Democratic Attorney General is a woman

Cartwright and Daugherty are 100% on the same page in every issue. Both Prolife not cultural warriors and won’t attempt to go against women. both against the blunt amendment. But you like Matt to be fair you should like Mr Daugherty as well. You never corrected the lies you told about Mr Daugherty (You said he was antigay-and claimed Adrian S told you that , well ” Adrian” said he never told you that, but you never corrected that did you?.. You also lied and inferred Mr Daugherty was anti contraception another lie did you correct it NO…

Mr Daugherty wins and now you are acting so un professional and so undemocratic that you have lost most of your “Street Cred” posting this nonsense. It there ever was a definition of crying over spilled milk , this article would be the example.

You Live in NYC ,yet you comment so vehemently about the politics of the valley and yet no one knows you or has seen you . It’s a shame you never talked to anyone directly about Mr Daugherty, that knew the long game he played. You never talked to Rick at all the community events, parties, etc. You didn’t see him in Shiloh or Union Baptist on Sundays or Pickels talking to the community people of Allentown did u?You don’t remember the friends Rick won back in 2008 when Rick was the only chair to stand up to Rendell when every democratic chair was forced to vote for Hillary. He stood up for Obama and won the community back then and we remember , the little people the community, you don’t know or are too scared to visit . Mr Daugherty was with the community of Allentown thanking Real people, at 2nd and chew before going to the swanky Pistachios on Tuesday night, he was at a small place celebrating with in the community of Allentown…..You need to spend time in the valley and have a real conversation face to face with people that live and work here instead of chirping from NYC.

Maybe you should give the guy a chance, now that he’s upset your choice . The terms “Money Aint a Thing” , and “Don’t talk about it, be about it”.resonates and have meaning in this community and Mr Daugherty is “About it” in this community… ..I expect a “I know it all “response , but don’t worry I’m never coming back here, because at a 59% win by Mr Daugherty , has been rendered your “feckless” influence Moot ..

PS Please vote for Mr Daugherty in Nov , even you aren’t that far gone yet and come and visit the best wings in the Valley at Pickels and meet the real people of the Allentown..

Jon isn’t living in NYC, that’s Greg you’re thinking about. Greg founded the website, and recently moved to New York.

If you are friends with Daugherty, tell him to send us an email correcting anything Jon may have said, and offering his plan going forward. We’re always happy to help, but it’s more useful to have him correct us and give his side, and we’ll happily let him write a piece advocating his positions.
