John Micek sends us to the Patriot News for the money quote:
The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee is upset over Gov. Tom Corbett’s decision to nominate a former top aide to a spot on the Allegheny County bench, the Patriot-News reports this morning. Court officials had asked the administration to hold off on filling judicial vacancies, citing a lack of cash. Corbett agreed to the request — for one year — and when it expired this year, the administration felt free to fill vacancies, the newspaper reports.
That’s not sitting well with Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Montgomery, who tells the PN that if Corbett wants to “send Mr. Ward to Disneyland or wants to get him to meet Beyonce, I would have no problem with that as long as it didn’t involve state money.” Leach added, “To me, the whole concept of justice is a very sacred concept and the process has to be above reproach. This is not about rewarding cronies.”
In an appearance in Montgomery County yesterday, Corbett defended Ward’s nomination and downplayed reports of unrest in the front office.
