Dem candidate William Dunbar said his opponent, Rep. John Taylor (R-Phila), has yet to respond to letters sent weeks ago challenging the Rep to a series of three debates between Sept. 10 and Oct. 26. The Dunbar campaign said Taylor may want to avoid debate because he continually votes along party lines to the detriment of the district. “I strongly believe, that as candidates, we have a duty to make sure that those in the community know the issues and know where we, as candidates, stand on those issues,” said Dunbar. “This is an important election, and Rep. Taylor and I have a responsibility to the constituency of the 177th district to make sure they know who and what they are voting for, and how much those votes will matter to the decisions that are made following the election. I believe that a debate is the best avenue for this.”
William Dunbar’s campaign website is here if you’d like to make a donation and help kick the last Republican out of Philly. PoliticsPA has HD-177 on their list of the top 10 House races.

Lots of rednecks still left in Bridesburg and the other river wards. I’d expect Taylor to hang on to his seat.
Also, been seeing some anti-Corbett TV spots here in western PA from a group calling itself “makingthingsharder”.
What is supposed to be debated? Dunbar has no platform, no support, campaign staff and is a troubled young man. Maybe Keystone Politics should look at Dunbar a little closer before taking sides here.
We’re a liberal blog. We support the Democratic candidate..
There is currently a movement to make sure and vote out the people who voted to suppress voting by requiring photo ID by November. John Taylor is one of the people who tried to keep people from voting by voting yes for that bill. You can look up who voted for that bill, in your district in PA and is running unopposed. If you have such a person running in your district, the idea is to do a write in Vote and vote for the name Atticus Finch (from To Kill a Mockingbird). I unfortunately live in Bridesburg and it’s true there are a lot of rednecks here still.
