The new Obama ad takes the stupid “are you better off” question head on:
What we need to ask is whether what Romney and the Republicans wanted to do would’ve worked better than what Obama did. And I think the surest evidence that their plan wouldn’t have worked is that Mitt Romney and all House Republicans are on record supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. If journalists really want an answer to the “better off” question, they can easily look into what that policy would’ve done to the economy during the Little Depression – if federal spending had to immediately and drastically level down to where tax receipts were when the crisis hit. It is a recipe for turning even mild recessions into depressions.
