Get Politics Out of Liquor Licensing

Everybody thinks these two new Bethlehem bars are going to be awesome, so the liquor license transfer approvals flew through City Council, but that’s not always the case. Sometimes you see opposition to these transfer votes crop up from neighbors, or more cynically, competing businesses.

Creating a political veto point there just adds an extra layer of stupid onto the already-terrible liquor license cartel system. Any restaurant that wants a liquor license should be able to buy one for like $5000, and shouldn’t have to go through the political ringer to get it.
