Colby Itkowitz:

While the presidential race tightening was somewhat expected, more stunning is the Senate matchup. Casey now leads Smith by just two points, 41 percent to 39 percent. As of August, in the same poll, Casey led Smith by 19. The dramatic drop off can only be attributed to Smith’s early effort on statewide television, depicting Casey as ineffective at a time when distrust in Washington is at its highest.

This feels like an outlier, so let’s see what the Q poll says tomorrow, but this is looking ugly. Time for Bob Casey to start spending down that huge fundraising haul and stop saying demoralizing stuff about wanting to buck the party.

The current poll on Muhlenberg’s website is from 9/28 which was in the field from 9/22-26. I’m guessing this poll was in the field during and immediately after the 10/3 debate when Romney got a big bounce and thus a bit of a downer for Dems.
