Great catch from freshman Rep. Mike Schlossberg (D-Allentown):
I want to fix a quirk in Pennsylvania law that forces a raped woman who bears a child to choose between receiving child support from the rapist or terminating his parental rights.
That’s why I am introducing legislation to require convicted rapists who father a child to pay child support – even if their parental rights are terminated.
We need to fix this huge injustice, because no rape victim should be forced to choose between parental rights and child support – and a rapist should be penalized for his crime, not rewarded with parental rights that may further torment his victim.
