Yes David Cohen’s a Jerk, But His Corbett Endorsement Isn’t That Interesting

If you view David Cohen as primarily a Democratic political operative, he looks like a huge jerk for publicly backing Tom Corbett for reelection.

But he is not wearing his Democratic Operative hat here, he’s wearing his Comcast Businessman hat. He’s making an educated guess that Tom Corbett’s going to be reelected because all incumbent PA Governors tend to get reelected. He doesn’t want to make Corbett and the majority Republicans angry, because he assumes Comcast will still have to work with them after the 2014 elections.

Here’s the key part of Amy Worden’s article:

Few who attended the most recent event were surprised that Cohen is now using his clout for Corbett.

They said that as the leader of the nation’s biggest cable company, Cohen is a businessman first who recognizes that history has demonstrated that Pennsylvania’s incumbent governors do not often lose reelection.

“He’s a partisan but pragmatic Democrat,” said one corporate executive in Philadelphia, who attended the fund-raiser but would not speak for attribution.

Now hopefully he turns out to be dead wrong, and then after we elect Joe Sestak in 2014 we’ll find a good way to stick it to Cohen like amending the state Constitution to allow a progressive income tax.

  1. He’s making an educated guess that Tom Corbett’s going to be reelected because all incumbent PA Governors tend to get reelected.

Hasn’t that only been the case in the last 30 or 40 years? Regardless, don’t all streaks eventually come to an end? And has there really been a GOP governor like Corbett in the past 40 years? Why would PA residents want another 4 years of the corrupt asshat?

Yeah but 30-40 years is really a solid trend. I think there are some good reasons to believe the Sandusky investigation and the Tea Party budgets have mortally wounded Corbett’s reelection prospects, but the smart money is still on the incumbent.

  2. Also, what was his excuse in 2010? Anyone with a brain could see Onorato was a completely crappy candidate. Also, I do find it funny that Cohen is crapping on Allyson Schwartz’s parade. She’s a DLC/NewDem just like his old boss(“Easy” Ed Rendell).

  3. I have no reason to listen to someone who is the leader of Comcast.

  5. One other thing. I presume Cohen also supports Corbett, and the Teahadists, racist vote rigging scheme? Good to know!!

Comcast is probably one of those Delaware loophole beneficiaries and pays no tax in the Commonwealth – whichever Governor is in power is his choice since none of the Govs seem to care enough about the middle class to get taxes from these companies.
