Here is yet another reason we need to beat Corbett in 2014:
Mackereth said there is “no deadline” for hammering out a deal on a possible Medicaid expansion. She sticks to a timetable she mentioned in May – that the earliest any such increase in enrollment could be implemented would be in 2015.
“If we decide to do anything,” she added.
As Mary Wilson reports, they’re looking for a “tailor-made” plan that suits Tom Corbett and the Tea People. That would be the Arkansas/Iowa “private option” plans that are more expensive and cover fewer people than a straightforward expansion of public insurance. So even if we do get a Medicaid expansion, it’s going to be some overly complicated Rube Goldberg system just so that Tom Corbett can say it’s “market-based” or something.
Once again, Medicaid and private insurance offer basically the same access to care, except for dental care. We can fix that by including dental care in the Essential Health Benefits package, and then enroll more people in Medicaid. Uninsured people are suffering and going bankrupt today because Tom Corbett is trying to satisfy purity trolls’ ideological ideas about the proper Role of Government.
