Pat Gillespie, the longtime Business Manager for the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council, announced today that he is personally supporting Katie McGinty in the Democratic Primary for Governor.
“I’m supporting Katie McGinty for Governor because she knows how to create jobs for Pennsylvania’s men and women,” Gillespie said. “Katie is committed to rebuilding our middle class by supporting policies that will attract jobs that pay livable wages. Simply put, I support Katie McGinty for Governor because she’ll fight for working men and women and she is the strongest candidate to take on Governor Tom Corbett next fall.”
Gillespie has served as Business Manager of the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council since 1982 and is one of the most respected labor leaders in Pennsylvania. He started off working as a union Operating Engineer, rising through the ranks becoming Vice President of Operating Engineers Local 542 before becoming President of the Council.
McGinty said that Gillespie’s support is further proof that her campaign continues to gain momentum.
“I am honored to have the personal support of a legendary labor leader like Pat Gillespie,” McGinty said. “We share the same commitment to creating jobs across Pennsylvania and his public support shows that our campaign continues to build momentum every day with the voters. Pennsylvanians need a change, and my campaign offers them that change anchored first and foremost in the need for good, jobs that pay a living wage.”
In a recent poll conducted by Allyson Schwartz’s campaign for Governor, McGinty came in second place with 15% support. That’s more than a 10-point increase from the last published poll on the gubernatorial race. McGinty also had the lowest unfavorability rating of all the candidates, with only 4% of respondents saying they viewed her unfavorably.
