Over the weekend, John Hugya, who served as former Rep. John Murtha’s chief of staff, announced through a spokesman that he would seek the Democratic nomination in the 12th Congressional District.
That spokesman, Michael Duga, appears to be the very same Michael Duga who famously impersonated a John Edwards campaign aide in 2007 to crash a Martha’s Vineyard fundraiser and remove personal items from the Edwards campaign, and then broke into a Coast Guard station in a stolen Chevrolet Suburban while in possession of marijuana.
At the time, police said Duga had a criminal history that included selling drugs and carjacking. Duga, who at the time worked for Senator Max Cleland as his chief of staff, was suspended and later fired from the Senator’s staff.
Hugya will face Democrat Erin McClelland in the primary, and the winner of the Democratic primary will face either incumbent Rep. Keith Rothfus or his Republican primary opponent Larry Stiles.
