Lehigh Tea Party Commissioner Tom Creighton Compares Same-Sex Partners to Pets

This is what passes for an argument in tea people occupied Lehigh County these days. This chucklehead is up for reelection in November. Donate to his opponent District 1 Council candidate Bill Leiner, and also County Executive candidate Tom Muller who is running against professional Tea Party comedian Scott Ott :

Commissioner Tom Creighton is sponsoring the only amendment to the 2014 budget so far, pushing back against County Executive Matt Croslis’ expansion of benefits to same-sex partners whose marriage is recognized in another state.

Creighton, a Republican, recommends taking the $219,000 line item — about $118,000 of which is actually county cost — and putting it back into the county’s dwindling stabilization fund.

Creighton, who is running for re-election, takes issue with the initiative, which he says doesn’t comport with his views on marriage or the county’s fiscal picture.

The county has to find new ways to cut costs, Creighton said, not new ways to spend money.

“The state has a ban on same-sex marriage, so why should the county be offering benefits for same-sex marriage?” Creighton said Wednesday.

“I don’t feel the county should be looking for new ways to give away taxpayer money. Next it could be giving money out to people’s pets or whatever. No, it probably won’t go that far.”

I tend yo compare the Tea Party to the Klan. So there you are.

You can help stop this nonsense by sending a check to Friends of Bill Leiner, 3122 Meadow Lane, Whitehall, PA 18052. One of my goals is to return the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners back to a place where fair, thoughtful decisions are made. I am embarrassed by Tom’s comment but it shows who these folks are and how they think.
