Charlie Dent claims that he supports ending the shutdown, but when the chips are down, he doesn’t really.
The Democrats are circulating what’s known as a “discharge petition” where, if it gets 218 signatures, can force a vote on a clean budget bill and reopen the government. All we need are the 20 House Republicans who claim to want to vote for a clean CR to sign this.
Last week I said this was put up or shut up time for moderate House Republicans, since a Yes or No vote on the petition is the same as a Yes or No vote to end the shutdown. And now we know that Charlie Dent really does not actually want to end the shutdown:
Now that he has been clear about his position, it is time for politics reporters to stop giving him credit for bucking the tea people and supporting a clean CR.
