I’m not going to say I think Todd Dietrich has a great chance of winning a write-in campaign for Bethlehem Mayor, but I will say that a write-in vote for Todd is not a wasted vote. Far from it. Todd is a much more thoughtful guy than Bob Donchez – the winner of the Democratic primary and prohibitive favorite for the general election – and has a better, more compelling vision for city-level policy change.
Bethlehem can’t afford to take 4 years off from visionary leadership, and after talking with Todd about this a bit, I’m persuaded he’s going to offer voters on his campaign blog a compelling vision for Bethlehem that young people can get behind – more mixed-use walkable neighborhoods, downtown development, food trucks, and all the other nice amenities that young people want in cities these days. Bob Donchez isn’t offering anything like that, and so even if Todd turns out not to win, this should make for some good earned media for some important ideas that the city’s elected and bureaucratic leadership badly needs to hear. I’m looking forward to covering Todd’s plans on this blog and rooting for a good showing, if not an underdog victory, in the write-in.
