Tom Corbett doesn’t have a record to run on when it comes to private sector job growth (it stalled out as soon as his administration’s economic policies hit the bloodstream) and certainly not public sector job growth, so it’s perhaps understandable that his reelection campaign has focused on what is supposedly his one area of strength: natural gas jobs.
Except natural gas jobs aren’t even a success story, as the whole category of Mining jobs (which includes gas) has been trending down for 21 months:
To recap, basically the entire Pennsylvania Republican economic agenda has been about boosting natural gas employment by encouraging a Wild West policy environment for fracking. But they even suck at that.
