John Grogan | Sentence should end with a story

Thomas Druce is about to go home.

I'm sure he is thrilled, and his wife and three children are, too. Prison is no place to spend your life.

The one-time rising-star Republican lawmaker from Bucks County will be paroled March 13 after serving exactly half of his maximum four-year sentence for striking a homeless man with his state-issued SUV and then fleeing and covering his tracks for months.

Justice, the parole board ruled, has been served.

I agree there is no compelling reason to keep the disgraced state representative behind bars. He is not dangerous; he poses no threat to anyone; his bunk is best opened up for someone who does.

All of that, however, is a far cry from justice served.
