Spinners Never Stop

One of the things that makes me laugh is when I see the media (and they all do it) interviewing some political consultant who presents themselves as “neutral” in a particular race. Nothing could be further from the truth.
They are never neutral. Period.

Why?

You have to understand how they work. First off, 99.9% of all consultants work for “one side or the other.” You don’t get to jump back and forth from the GOP to the Democrats. And in that lies the problem with them being anything but “All Partisan, All The Time!”

Let’s suppose our imagery consultant is named, say, Amber. And Amber works only for GOP candidates. RIght at this moment, in the midst of the Presidential election cycle, Amber doesn’t have any work. Maybe because she screwed up last year or because she just doesn’t look at ravishing to her potential clients as she once did. But I digress.

So, when Randy Reporter asks her, “Well Amber, tell me what you think of McCain’s strategy at this point. I mean, you don’t have a dog in this fight…” she has no choice but to play nice with McCain and The Party, so that she can have some chance of future employment. She HAS to say McCain is brilliant and handsome and making all the right moves. She has to be loyal.

At the same time, and for the same reasons, she HAS to trash the Democrats.

I know this is pretty simply logic, but I am afraid many journalists don’t get it. Spinners never stop. They lie and manipulate for a living and whirl until they wear out their dervishes.

The next time you see one interviewed and asked for their “honest opinion,” keep that in mind.
