Chris Matthews vs Arlen Specter in 2010?

There has been lots of speculation that Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s Hardball, and NE Philadelphia native, will run as Dem against Arlen Specter in 2010. Matthews has been approached before about coming back to the state and running for senate, but has so far resisted doing so.

But, if you have watched Matthews recently on Harball you’ll know he openly admits how much he admires president-elect Obama. Matthews, a former Peace Corps volunteer, is still, at heart, an idealistic baby-boomer. It’s so easy to see how Obama’s message just resonates with him; he almost glows. IMHO, if Rendell or Bob Brady approach Matthews now about running against Specter, I believe he would jump at the chance to serve in congress supporting an Obama administration.

Dudrich For State Representative In 2010

My name is Paul Dudrich and I am planning to run for state representative for the 115th district in 2010. That seat is currently being held by 24 year incumbant Ed Staback

PA GOP in shambles

Pennsylvania Republican Party Chairman Robert A. Gleason Jr. must be an eternal optimist.

His party is in shambles, having lost more ground to the Democrats in successive election cycles, but Gleason is choosing to look at the few bright spots in Tuesday’s Election Day debacle.

From a statement Gleason released after the GOP took a beating at the polls Tuesday:

“First of all, we would like to thank John McCain and Sarah Palin for the race they ran and their commitment to our Party. Tonight, was certainly a historic night and we recognize Barack Obama for a hard-fought victory. That being said, our Party is proud of the work we were able to accomplish, but certainly not satisfied.”  read more »

Congragulations President Elect Barak Obama !

Congragulations President Elect Barak Obama!

Congragulations for a focused and well precisioned election campaign. Congragulations to the Obama 2008 Election team and Obama 2008 Volunteers !

All things are possible to them that believe. Napoleon Hill once said “Whatever the human mind can conceive and believe it can achieve”. Against all odds, against negative ads, negative rhetoric, negative commentary, the American dream conceived in the heart of a believer, became a reality for a nation.  read more »

PA-05: McCracken for Congress -- Staying Positive with a Message of Hope and Change

There really isn’t a lot left to say as we head into the final 24 hours of the campaign. First, and most important, Kelly, Amanda and I want to thank everyone who has helped in any way with the campaign. The one thing I will take away from this experience, regardless of the outcome on Tuesday, is the people I’ve met, the communities I’ve visited and the stories we’ve shared.  read more »

Older adults should fear McCain-Palin

Republicans often accuse Democrats of trying to scare seniors about GOP plans for Medicare and Social Security. However, Democrats’ warnings are rooted in reality. Republicans have tried to undermine these critical social insurance plans for years. Unfortunately, McCain and Palin are no different.

Take Medicare. The non-partisan Tax Policy Center estimates that McCain’s health plan would cost $1.3 trillion over ten years. To pay for this, Senator McCain has proposed some minor changes in Medicare; however, no expert believes these can achieve the savings needed to finance the McCain-Palin health plan. The Wall Street Journal has reported that McCain will pay for his plan by making major cuts in Medicare
and Medicaid (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122315505846605217…).  read more »

Gene Ludwig, Former US Comptroller of the Currency, Endorses Obama

As someone who was raised in York, Pennsylvania, and proud of it, I want to explain why I believe it is so important to Pennsylvania and America for Barack Obama to be the next President of the United States, and why I so strongly support him.  read more »

Translating the Walmart PR Spin

Walmart’s hometown newspaper, the Northwest Arkansas Morning News, has an interesting article up today about Walmart executives meeting with 200 of their cronies at a conference and outlining their plans for 2009. It could be a watershed year for progressives, but the Bentonville behemoth has some plans of its own and they ain’t pretty.

So I thought I’d go through each one of Walmart’s plans and translate some of their PR spin – or wipe the lipstick off the pig, if you will. All stats and figures are compliments of WakeUpWalmart.com, with whom I do some work.

On Growth Projections, Walmart sez:  read more »

PA-05: McCracken for Congress -- Working the Final Week to Take Back Our Future

The campaign schedule has been pretty intense over the last week and will continue to be so until the BIG day on Tuesday, November 4th. I want to congratulate everyone for putting so much effort into this year’s election, not just for an individual campaign, but for the entire Democratic ticket. I’ve seen people in every community throughout the 5th district working to make sure the message is getting out.  read more »

John McCain and Medicare

In an article addressed to “senior citizens of America,” Doug Holtz-Eakin, Senator McCain’s chief domestic policy adviser, assures us that John McCain poses no threat to Medicare (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/opinion/letter…...). According to Holtz-Eakin, “seniors will receive higher quality care at lower costs and reduced premiums.” This sounds good, but when it comes to Medicare, seniors should beware Republicans bearing gifts.  read more »

McCain's been tested?

Well that’s the latest marketing approach from the “reinvent your campaign every day” smart boyz at McCain Central.

The paraphrase is; “I’ve been tested, so our enemies won’t come after us.”

Excuse me, but what tests is he specifically referring to? The ones his oncologist did?

The man has been a US Senator. It is not a leadership type position. He has never had to make life-altering, nation-securing decisions. He, like Obama and other 98, deal with serious issues, but they never have to be the ONE whose ass is on the line. So, John, shut up. I have a hard time taking you seriously as a “man who has been tested” when you sing “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran,” though it is instructive in the way he views the world….  read more »

PA Seniors Can Make a Difference

Check out comments below from Chuck Todd on Meet the Press yesterday. Make every senior you know aware of the damage McCain-Palin will do to Social Security & Medicare and urge them to vote Obama-Biden.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27266223/page/4/#story…

MR. BROKAW: And, Chuck, as I’ve been listening to these two campaigns and watching their ads, it seems to me if you’re a senior citizen in America, they’re probably calling you up and say, “We’ll come over and do your
laundry and drive you to the early bird special if that’s what it takes to get you to vote for us.”

MR. TODD: Well, you know, we talk all about young voters, and we talk about African-Americans, we talk about this, we talk about that. This thing is  read more »

PA-05: McCracken for Congress -- Come January 2009, We Must Remember What The American People Expect

Earlier this week I received an email from a 5th district voter with very strong pro-life beliefs who would like to vote for me. She told me via email that she is comfortable that I am Catholic and my stance on pro-life issues is similar to that of Sen. Robert Casey. She feels it is very likely Barack Obama will be elected President and the Democratic Party will gain seats Congress. Where her concern lies is what actions a newly inaugurated President Barack Obama and a United States Congress with a strong Democratic majority will take after January of 2009. She is afraid there will be a far left agenda that will attempt to overturn pro-life initiatives put into effect like the ban on partial birth abortions.  read more »

The Role of Flu Shots

The Pittsburg Tribune-Review reports today that for two hours on Sunday, free flu shots will be offered to Indiana county residents at three sites as a drill to study how well the county’s Points of Dispensing System works. http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/new….

While the primary purpose of this drill is to address public health needs in an emergency, it also makes flu shots available to people who might not otherwise get them – a public health good that’s worthwhile in and of itself.

Can you afford a flu shot? Many people can’t afford the nominal fee, and they don’t have health insurance coverage to defray the cost. They get the flu, and the rest of us suffer.  read more »

What Obama Is Saying About Health Care

Senator Obama is on top of his game about health care during tonight’s debate. His continual reference to health care issues shows the importance he places on improving access and reducing costs.

In response to the first question, the very first example he gave of a wasteful federal program involved health spending. Senator Obama said that he would cut the overpayment by Medicare to private insurance companies that don’t do any better for Medicare beneficiaries. The overpayments to Medicare HMOs have been well documented by MedPAC, the Congressional Budget Office, and the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, among other organizations, all of which recommend the cuts Obama mentioned. See, http://www.cbpp.org/5-13-08health.htm.  read more »
