Can't Pave the Streets? Just Wait for Slots!

Gort42 writes about the panacea that is slots. Recently several citizens at a Plains Twp (Northeast PA) meeting stood up and asked why their streets were in such poor condition. Board Chairman Ronald "Filippini agreed that the streets are in deplorable condition, adding that when revenue from Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs starts coming in, then the township will be able to pave the roads. He said the township also is looking into other forms of revenue to address the problem."

So the slots are going to pave our streets, build a new arena for the Pittsburgh Penguins and cure male pattern baldness. Oh yeah, you might get a break on your property taxes if everything comes up roses. Who will really benefit from more gambling?

anything that can cure male pattern baldness has to be good, right?

Well, that’s what I’m hoping for!

Re: doubters, now hear this...

Local Philly news just had a story about an 84-yr old
woman, who’s been playing the slots since the casinos
in A.C. opened, won $10M on one of the nickel slots.

Think about that, a 10M payout on a 5 cent slot. Think about how much money is generated for that kind of payout on a 5 cent slot machine.

I’m glad some one explored this, because I feel local governments (and even the state) are relying so much on the gaming money that it’s going to be a whitewash before it becomes a reliable market.

Let’s explore some items – within a few years, the amount of money that is going to need to be spent on teacher pensions alone is going to triple, in addition to other retiring baby boomer state workers. So we also have property taxes that need relief. And the new Penguins place. And Chester is going to need a facelift, Michael Jackson style. And the Poconos will refurbish their roads. Bethlehem will uplift the Southside. And Ed Rendell will purchase the power to walk on water.

Re: Can't Pave the Streets? Just Wait for Slots!

so wait, where does the cure for my male pattern baldness come into play? Is this before or after Ed goes Christ-like on us?

Personally, I think my future baldness warrants greater attention than the Penguins new home.

LOL - Can Gambling Cure Premature Gray?

If anyone hears anything, give me a heads-up on that one…
