The 10th CD - Not as Republican as You Thought?

Straight from the PA Dems, but worth noting. The 10th Congressional District, currently occupied by Chris Carney (D), is more Democratic than we all thought. The current registration numbers are 49% Repub, 40% Dem, and 11% independent. So, what’s this mean for Carney in the fall?

New voter registration figures show that the 10th Congressional District of Pennsylvania is trending Democratic. Based on new registration figures collected county by county, the 10th Congressional district now has Republican voter registration at 49%, Democratic registration at 40%, and Independents are at 11%. Past public polling has shown Republican Party registration to be 53%—a significant drop.

Calling all 10th residents...

Do any KPers live in the 10th? What’s the word on the Hackett/Carney match-up?

10th

I’m in the 10th, but I have not heard any major rumblings as of yet. Much of what I have heard favors Chris Carney. Of course I’m a dem so what I hear is going to be somewhat biased. The word on Hackett is that he is unfamiliar to a majority of the district. I’m sure that by the close of Summer things will start to heat up. We should all be prepared to hear more about bee farms in France and illegal maids. Ah, democracy!

Registration numbers in PA can be deceiving

There are a lot of older voters in rural areas who have been registered Democrats for many years. But they are culturally conservative, especially when it comes to gun control and abortion. They often still vote for Democrats for local and county offices, but go with the GOP for state and federal races.

A much better measure of the district’s partisanship would be the margin which Bush carried the district in 2004.

Not so sure

I’m not sure I buy this – Carney is pretty socially conservative for a Democrat. He matches the district pretty well and I think he’ll run a competitive race to retain the seat.

Appreciate the Updates...

Thank you for the updates. I’m in Pittsburgh area (in the 4th CD, actually), which is another seat the GOP is trying to reclaim. Just trying to get a sense of how things stand across the state. I heard a lot of conservative Republicans would’ve preferred Meuser over Hackett? True? I know PA10 is at the very top of the NRCC’s target list. Have the anti-Carney ads started yet?

I'm in the 10th...

and I can tell you this, regardless of the registration there are a fair number of people upset that Hackett won the primary.

Hackett managed to alienate a large segment of the republican establishment, he represents a splinter of the party, and will be lucky to even make a respectable showing in November.

Word is out that a lot of republicans will either skip this contest, or write in Mueser’s name.

They are already talking about 2010.

kevin

Really?

I didn’t realize it was that bad – what did Hackett do to alienate this big segment of the Republican base?

no, not really...

He beat Kevin (KAR’s) candidate in the primary. Take what he says with a grain of salt…the R’s are already piling up behind Hackett. I hear Meuser will be coming out for him any day now, sorry KAR, that’s politics.

Hackett burned his bridges

Hackett ticked-off many Meuser supporters so bad by the slash and burn tactics of his negative campaign that he will lose to Carney! You are correct that Meuser will be the write in for a lot of Republicans. Hackett can get a job as a temp.with ONE SOURCE, maybe his maid and campaign mgr. will work there too in November!

issues

i hope chris has a better feel for the issues this time around then last time against china meuser. sounds like the same old tired gop issues, the world is changing fast and chris is a nice guy but you still have to get by nancy pelosi and her union goons. chris h.has to have somne substance to his issues and he can not just go al;ong with gop centrall. hell they dont have any money anyway thats why they recruited two rich white boys. lets see what happens the union check off isue is going to be a bigger issue then the labor unions think it is going to be in the district. it is democracy in action without the benefit of a vote.

Hackett issues

Huh? English translation please!

10th GOP

is DOA, no win, no clout and can’t deliver a lode of 10th District cow manure with the increased DEM majority in the House, Senate and a new DEM president. RIP GOP for a while! Poor KAR, hahahahahaha

Carney Supports Immunity for Telecom Spying

why is this pennsylvanian leading the charge to protect Bush/Cheney on their ILLEGAL spying on americans ???

why doesn’t he want us to know the extent of their lawlessness ?

asking our friends in the Keystone State to tell Congressman Carney to join us in supporting the rule of law and constitutional protections

telecoms may want to buy, but our laws are not for sale !

Still Favorable to Republicans

President George W. Bush carried the 10th CD 60-40% over Senator John F. Kerry.

Congressman Carney is also running into trouble among liberal groups who feel betrayed by him after they worked to ensure his election in 2006. Blue Reform PAC has raised $74,000 to run ads against Congressman Carney. This group gave a lot of support to Carney in 2006, but is very upset with his stance on the FISA law and his willingness to sign on with Republicans to prevent telephone companies from being sued if they wire-tapped for the government.

That being said, Carney is no social conservative. His rating on abortion is 17%. He has voted to raise taxes, been a lap dog to Speaker Pelosi, and has continues the lies, deceptions, and cronyism that has become typical of the Democratic Congress.

Hackett will win this race because he understands the district and understands what the people are looking for: someone who stands up for the conservative principles so many in the district continue to believe in.

Lose-Lose

As a resident of the 10th I feel it’s a lose-lose situation. I supported Carney because I could no longer tolerate the Republican control of the district for the last four decades. I had hoped Carney would maintain the moderate stance on which he campaigned. He never said he was a “social conservative,” which is all well and good because that’s just abortion and gun rights crap that really doesn’t matter. As for Hackett, well he’s too far right for my taste. All that same old right-wing rhetoric of lower taxes, pro-life self-righteous babble, 2nd amendment nonsense. You know, all the stuff these people believe in only because they think it will reserve them a place in heaven. First off, ain’t no after life, when you’re gone, you is gone. Second, you can’t lie, cheat, steal, and hate your way through life and then expect to be forgiven because you were anti-abortion. I don’t use the term pro-life because it makes opponents sound as though they are anti-life. I’m just anti-self-righteous hypocrites telling others what how they should live and believe. Oh right, Carney and Hackett. In short, Carney is not the moderate Dem I thought he was and Hackett is the epitomey of the right-wing conservatives I despise. What is a voter in the 10th to do?

Time to go Carney

I live in the 10th district and I don’t think he’ll win reeelection. Yes, he has sided with the GOP on some issues(FISA) he knows he has to. But he holds the liberal line on abortion and oil drilling. I wrote wondering what his position was on domestic drilling, no surprise he opposes all drilling. Same old crap windfall profit taxes, alternative energy(pipedreams). The defining issue at the moment is gas and oil prices and he is siding with the liberal Dems on this issue. Shameful. Hey, Hey, Hey…Goodbye, Chris Carney.
