Dan Meuser, a Republican candidate for the 10th Congressional District seat, has filed nomination petitions that show he continues to live outside the district.But in a statement, Meuser, who lives in Shavertown, Jackson Township, Luzerne County, said his fulfillment of plans to move into the district to a home in Harveys Lake is only being held up temporarily by renovations to the new home. Jackson Township is in the 11th Congressional District.
Meuser said he used his Jackson Township address on the petitions to comply with state law.
“After doing a little research, we learned that this address needed to reflect where my family spends the predominance of their time,” Meuser said. “Therefore, as my renovations are taking a little longer than expected at Harveys Lake, we decided to use the old address on the petition to fully comply both with the letter and the spirit of the law.”
Is this Carney's best bullet? or Hackett's?
Meuser’s Jackson Twsp home is literally within 200 yards of the “Line” of the 10th. I guess that makes him wayyyy out of touch with the district. about renovating the Harvey’s Lake home, I don’t have a clue. The fact is, if this is his opponent’s best shot, they are in really trouble.

Actually, I think it speaks volumes about Meuser and brings up many questions.
If he’s so close to the line and knows the district, why move at all? There’s no legal requirement that he has to live in the 10th district to run for Congress there.
Why, if he’s intent on doing this, isn’t he challenging Paul Kanjorski, since that’s where he lives?

Somebody ought to question Meuser and ask him if Don Sherwood was still the 10th CD representative, would he run for Congress in his home district (11th CD) instead?
We all know the answer. This is all about opportunities. Meuser could never beat an entrenched incumbent like Kanjorski. Running against Carney in the 10th CD is much more appealing because of the demographics! The 10th CD has been represented by a Republican for 45 of the last 47 years. Just having the “R” behind your name is usually enough in that district. Why face an uphill battle for a seat in Congress when you can take the easy road!
Carney and Hackett are showing weakness

Yes, Meuser lives 200 yards outside of the district, yes he is very involved in the district, yes he and his family go to church there and his kids play baseball there.. And Yes, his intentions are so serious that he is up-rooting his family and moving to a home oficially in the district. What a shame…
What really speaks volumes is that Meuser has a lot of traction and the others are now running scared.
He has raised a lot more money from a much wider base. Unlike Hackett, he didn’t have to put it in himself. He has more than twice as many petition signatures as Hackett. Chris Hackett should have enough sense to give it up and do what is right for the party.. His ego will not let him and Maderia will never tell him as long as he still draws a weekly paycheck. If he did win , most of the R’s that have watched his antics will not support him

In the Times Leader, Meusers campaign spokesman said he is living at the Harveys Lake address while renovations are being completed. (which is a direct contridiction of what is in the Scranton Times).

Meuser’s Campaign Spokesman on WILK said “ He would have been living in the 10th for 12 years had it not been for Gerrymandering.
FACT: Meuser has only lived in Luzerne County (Bear Creek before his move to Jackson Township in October 2005) since he moved to the area, and a portion of Luzerne County was added to the 10th in 2002. No one in Luzerne County lived in the 10th prior to this time. The third lie.
MeUser’s spokeman said, Dan lives 200 yards from the 10th, Dan “paced it off himself”.
FACT: Google Maps shows it as over a mile by road and more than 1/2 mile thru the woods. Must be some big paces for such a little guy. The issue is not the actual distance, but the constant distortion of truth. The forth lie.
I also find it interesting that Meuser’s team thinks getting a lot of signitures shows he is the top candidate – what it shows is he wastes his resources to look like a big shot – sounds like someone with a complex of some sort – FORM OVER SUBSTANCE? The total that counts is tallied on April 22 (Meuser won’t have to worry about November). The smart guy in this process is Davis Haire who tallied just over the required 1,000. Sounds like a guy who knows how to run a tight ship. And how about his strong statement in the Scranton Times regarding growing up in the district.

What a bunch of losers trying to represent the good people of this district. Carney is doing a good job and will be re-elected and be able to work in a much larger Democratic majority in the House. These boys are fighting to be in a Republican minority in Congress and working with a Democratic President after the 2008 election. Why would the voters of the 10th want a Representative with ABSOLUTELY NO CLOUT?????? HAHAHAHAHA

So the people in the 10th are different from the people in the 11th???? People in Exeter are different than people in Wyoming? People in Jessup are different than people in Olyphant??? People in South Williamsport are different than people in Williamsport?? Show me where any of these people would have different concerns and I’ll agree you may be on to something.

Clearly they’re not, but the fact is that Meuser could have run where he actually lived, rather than been a crass political opportunist and moved his home to run where it might be easier to win.

Would you sink your money and time in to something no one else could accomplish especially when you are an unknown. Or…......if you wanted to enter public service and you’ve never campaigned before would you run where you have more of a chance to win? He’s obviously not doing for the money. He sure as hell doesn’t need it. He wants to be a congressman so he’s running in the same district he drives through every day on the way to work which is a few hundred feet away from his house. A district where many of his friends and family live. Why is that so bad??

The 10th will be far better off without Dan Meuser. What exactly are this guys qualifications? He joined the family business and now has a bank account that allows him to jump into the political arena. All these people are the same, just because they’re part of a successful business they convince themselves they are qualified to be in public office. Please- no more white collar conservatives, they are so out of touch with reality.
