State Sen. Vincent J. Fumo has received a target letter from federal prosecutors indicating that he could be indicted, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Thursday.
The newspaper, citing anonymous sources, said the powerful Philadelphia Democrat received the letter over the summer.
In late May, two of his aides were arrested for allegedly obstructing the federal investigation of Fumo's ties to a nonprofit group by deleting large batches of e-mails.
Fumo's lawyer, Mark Sheppard, declined to confirm the existence of the letter to The Associated Press on Thursday. He told the newspaper the case needs to run its course.
Fumo's got some problems on his hands right now.

Re: Fumo gets letter warning of possible indictment
Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
If Fumo were indicted and conviced, it would be very interesting to see what would happen with the power vacuum that would create. He has the sway over quite a few members of the state house, and there are many prople sitting on various state boards and commissions who are Fumo people.
Re: Fumo gets letter warning of possible indictment
There was a lot of discussion on this over at YPP (young philly politics) yesterday. Councilman Jim Kenney, who posts at YPP, put up a comment that this story was leaked by the US Atty’s office to the Inky. Now Kenney and Fumo are allies, but it could be that Meehan’s case is not all that good and he’s hoping the publicity (of a secret GJ action, FTR) might get others to turn on Fumo or Fumo himself to cut a deal.
