Re: Home Rule for Lancaster?
Interesting that Lancaster is looking at this before the higher populated counties such as Montco, Chesco, Bucks and Delco do. The fact that the Chamber is taking the lead is really interesting b/c it means they are looking for an executive with power to implement policy, meaning the chamber is expecting a great deal more growth potental out of the county.
Proceed carefully.
Re: Home Rule for Lancaster?
Agreed. I’m conflicted because the D party has endorsed the idea several years ago decrying the use of row offices as patronage for the Rs.
The upshot of the current system, however, is it ensures some minority power. Ie. 3 commissioners, 2 majority, 1 minority. In the case of Lancaster, giving Ds 1/3 of the say but it would be flip flopped in a D controlled county.
While the system causes friction it also gives both sides at least some measure of say to all sides.
Re: Works in Philly
We have home rule and it works well enough here, except, that is, when the Republican legislature decides it can overrule our charter. That is the only real thing that would concern me.

Not in Northampton
Home Rule has been decent in Lehigh but a fiasco in Northampton County.
Re: Not in Northampton
they’re working on it. I would expect Stoffa’s skills to be good at making big improvements
