Seeking to soften the bite of $52 EMS tax

The biggest obstactle in all of this will be local governments that collect that tax. It will increase the cost of collection.

State lawmakers are taking another run at changing the way municipalities collect the $52 emergency services tax.

On Monday, the Senate Appropriations Committee unanimously signed off on legislation sponsored by Sen. Pat Browne, R-Lehigh, that would allow employers to deduct $1 a week from paychecks, easing what some have described as a tough bite on the pay packets of most workers.

Now, the levy is deducted from a single paycheck at the beginning of January.

‘‘When you’ve got someone earning $300 a week, $52 is a huge bite,’‘ Browne said.

$52 ems tax

I’ve said it from the beginning of this tax, “if its a $52 tax why not do a dollar a week” But another point is why have it at all when we get over 20% of our hard earned money taking out for other taxes and we dont even see where it goes. The only place I see it going is to debit cards that the polititions have access to. So its good the people final started to catch on.
