Putting a gambling idea on the table

Let’s take a look at the list of items that DeWeese could be pushing instead of introducing this bill: health care, property tax reform, ethics reform, campaign finance reform, transportation… instead we get gambling.

Calling it the second chapter in Pennsylvania gambling, a powerful state lawmaker will introduce legislation next month to allow table games – from blackjack to roulette – to operate side by side with slot machines at state casinos.

But even the sponsor of the legislation, House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese, acknowledges that it might take years to take gambling to the next level.

Only four of the 14 authorized Pennsylvania slots parlors have even opened yet, and the bill would have to overcome two hulking hurdles: a General Assembly that has grown more conservative since the state legalized slots three years ago, and Gov. Rendell, who six months ago said he believes it’s too soon for table games.

But DeWeese isn’t counting out support from Rendell, who has 31/2 more years in office and who has been known to change his mind on key issues, including raising the minimum wage.

DeWeese will introduce

DeWeese will introduce legislation to make prostitution legal next year, because “other nearby states are doing it and we need to stay competitive.” When asked what he sees even further down the road, DeWeese said, “Televised executions, sort of like the state lottery, might be a great money maker!”

Pennsylvania. Always on the forefront of being backwards.

Pilt

Hahahahaha

LOL. I love that. We certainly are on the forefront of being backwards. I’ve argued that for years – we’re a leader in following.

We disagree again

Pilt,

I happen to believe that prostitution, along with drugs, should be legal, safe, regulated and taxed.

Forgot a Word, pd...

Unfortunately, you left out “rare”. I’m sure it was an oversight.

Neither will ever be "rare", LVDem

LVDem, humans have been using drugs probably forever and prostitution is the “world’s oldest profession” so I don’t
think either of these activities will ever be rare. That’s part of the reason it makes so much sense to make them legal and regulated.

pd

You mean "thegentlemanfrompennsylvania"

The rare comment came from our friend, The Gentleman from Pennsylvania. I’m told he is neither a gentleman and he’s actually not from Pennsylvania, rather a secluded cabin in Montana.

I didn’t say anything on this matter. Oh wait, I just did. Crap, you tricked me.

Alright, off to work.

I know all the arguments

I know all the arguments about legalizing drugs and prostitution…and I simply think it’s wrong to do so. Call me old-fashioned. I believe that, as a society, we shouldn’t go out of our way to give outright approval to these kinds of activities. I might be dead wrong, but that’s the way I feel. I don’t think that Nevada has done much to raise us up as a nation or a people. And if you ask a lot of people in The Netherlands, they’ll tell you that their ongoing experience with drugs isn’t all it’s touted to be.

Pilt

HOW COULD I forget my roots?

Thank you for reminding me, LV. Yes, the Unabomber and I were next-door neighbors on Arayan Way, a beautiful McMansion development that cut through the pristine national parks of the American West. We attempted to inconvenience as many herds of deer as possible – occasionally we shot at them just for fun. We were thinking of adding a few oil rigs on our spacious properties, until Ted HAD to go and get himself caught up in a bit of a bad rap a few years back. I’ve since moved my “White Power” operation back to the good ‘ol Keystone State, where I attempt to radicalize as many white males as possible against the gay-loving, gun-hating, government-grubbing secular liberals. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I must get to our weekly cross-burning and try out my new AK on this cute little fawn that’s been attempting to graze in the backyard of our third house.

Oh, by the way, I’m with Pilt on the actual issue at hand.

The Gentleman (Racist, Homophobic Bastard) from Pennsylvania (the backwoods of Montana)

lol

I was going to leave your relationship with the unibomber out of this, but since you are in touch with your roots, I’m glad you can talk so freely.

I hope you know I was joking. I have a college friend who laughs whenever somebody address him as a gentleman… he is, he just finds it funny.

No Worries...

Nah, I know you were joking. I figured that I’d roll with it and liven up a slow news week.
