By any measure, the filing of corruption charges against a dozen people connected to the House Democratic caucus brightens Attorney General Tom Corbett’s future in Pennsylvania politics — including a possible bid for governor in 2010.In a single news conference last week, Corbett shed his previously low profile and established himself as a champion of cleaning up state government.
The grand jury reports he released described an ingrained culture in which illegal campaign activity was allegedly a condition of taxpayer-financed employment. As a result, millions of public dollars were diverted to helping elect Democratic candidates — or defeat Republican ones — instead of paying for government services.

If Tom Corbett really wants to be governor, he’d take on the cable companies.
Now there is a winning issue.

Cable Co. and Republicans
Mr. Corbett’s Office must investigate the use of bonuses for political work among House & Senate Republicans as vigilantly as they have the House Democrats. It would be difficult for any Pennsylvania voter to take him seriously as a candidate for Governor, and not merely a political hack, if he fails to prosecute a single Republican in this mess. In fact, he would likely gain additional support from PA R’s if he were able to get anything to stick to Speaker Emeritus John Perzel, who has undoubtedly been involved in a number of questionable situations through the years. Also, wasn’t Corbett, the state’s top law enforcement officer, taking money from disgraced casino owner, Louis DeNaples two months prior to slots law passing?
I know he is doing a commendable job thus far with Bonusgate, but lets not be so quick to forget Mr. Corbett’s short-comings.
