In a widening investigation into allegations of government corruption, prosecutors have interviewed 20 to 30 House Republican staffers in the last two weeks, caucus spokesman Steve Miskin confirmed yesterday.Other staffers had been interviewed as long ago as last year, he said, although he could not say how many.
Mr. Miskin said he is not aware that any Republican lawmakers were interviewed.
“The process has been ongoing and we’ve been absolutely scrutinized to the same degree [as the Democratic caucus],” Mr. Miskin said.

All for show
I doubt this will ben anything more than a cursory investigation or that there will be any indictments of Republicans. This is all so Corbett can claim to be “non-partisan”.

Corbett not even close to being fair
Note that these have been “interviews” of Republican staff by friendly Republican prosecutors. Much different than nearly 150 Democratic staff being subpoenaed to testify under oath in front of a grand jury while being grilled by aggressive prosecutors.
Also, keep in mind that there isn’t any evidence left for Corbett follow. The House Republicans destroyed their hard drives and servers in the summer of 2007 (as reported in Sunday’s Patriot News.)
High-Octane Cynicism...
So, either way, Corbett can’t really win here, can he? If he doesn’t interview Republican staffers, he’s conducting a “partisan” investigation. However, if he does interview Republican staffers, it’s “all for show”. Corbett has done nothing to indicate a partisan slant in the Bonusgate investigation, yet some are hellbent (seemingly driven by their OWN partisan leanings) to paint it in exactly that light. The state is investigating all four legislative caucuses and, thus far, only certain individuals within the House Democratic caucus have been accused of illegal activity. Are some of us so entrenched in partisan positions that we can’t accept the fact that a legitimate, professional investigation (that has received praise from all quarters of the state without regard to party or ideology) is occurring and the evidence will lead where it will? At the end of the day, if it means the “smoke-filled” rooms in Harrisburg are put on their way to being snuffed out, and taxpayers don’t have to worry that their hard-earned money is being used to facilitate affairs and compensate “campaign-related duties”, it will have been worth it. If it means some of “my guys” go to jail, so be it. Unfortunately, some of us can’t fully accept the fact that “their guys” could ever do wrong. It’s exactly that brand of thinking that created the environment for the ethical mess our General Assembly has become.
Gent Corbett CAN win here

Corbett CAN win here by knowing he has done his job and done it well. As you say, if this is what it takes to break this cycle of corruption in Harrisburg, then let it be. If Corbett comes out of this looking like he is attacking Dems (which he will to many Dems), he can be proud in the fact that to those of us that have moved beyond this “he said, she said” politics, see Corbett as someone that is willing to do his job, regardless of what it will do to his personal political future. Do I believe Corbett may be targeting Democrats for political reasons? Only if he stops here. He needs to continue to root out those involved in corruption and neither party is clean. It will be up to Corbett to bring those that have turned Harrisburg into the embarrassment it is to all of us. He must do it regardless of party, regardless of political futures and regardless of the criticism it brings on himself. I believe he will. It’s not only his job…he is that kind of man.

Corbett corrupt AG
Sounds like a repeat of Bush-Rove-Gonzo and the US DOJ.
Lets get real – Republicans paid bonuses and had as-bad behavior or worse in Harrisburg. This Investigation is SOOOOO partisan – it stinks big time – this is no coincidence”
“The House GOP replaced computer equipment in 2007, after Corbett would have launched his investigation.”
Nice job Patriot News – looks like we need an Independent Counsel investigation in PA AG’s office.
Conducting an independent
Conducting an independent investigation of Corbett’s office and his handling of this whole affair is nothing more than cranking up Instant Replay to see if the line judge made the right call. The problem is the “right call” depends on what side of the field your on. My point is Corbett needs to continue his work and continue it in a nonpartisan atmosphere. If it proves to be a Democratic headhunt by Corbett, we can all rest assured that Harrisburg is forever lost.
