A Harrisburg Night Before Christmas

From our irreverent friends at The Lehigh Valley Political Blog:

The Night Before Christmas — Harrisburg Style (Abridged)*
by LVCurmudgeon (with apologies to Clement Moore … and anyone else with an ounce of common sense)

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the House,
Not a lobbyist was stirring, they all were too soused.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a pay raise soon would be there.
Staffers were shacked up in political beds
While visions of bonuses danced in their heads.

When out by the dome there arose such a clatter,
They sprang from the bars to see what’s the matter.
Away to their lawyers they flew like a flash,
Denying and dodging each newsperson’s sass.
The fear on their faces soon gave me to know
They were scared of the Sunshine a new law would show

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a speeding black limo that swerved here and there.
With a campaigning driver his face lit with glee,
I knew in a moment it was our A.G.
As they buried their heads and refused to turn ‘round,
To the Capitol Corbett came with a bound.

He was dressed all in blue, a right shiny new suit,
With pockets of subpoenas all ready, to boot.
A swarm of detectives he had at his back
And they scurried all over chasing each hack.
He spoke many words as he went to his work.
Indicting each Demo he thought was a jerk.

They’re scoundrels and layabouts the GOP claimed
But ignored their own sinners ‘cause that was the game.
Each party boss stuttered and stammered to pose
Their lies made them look like Pinocchio’s nose
When finally the voters awoke to the sight
And threw all the bums out in the cold night.
But I heard them exclaim as they drove out of sight,
“We’ll all be back, we’re incumbents, all right!”
