"Killadelphia" Call Beckons for Gun Control

This finds its way in the debate almost on a bi-monthly basis. How much longer until it’s solved?

City Council members asked a court Wednesday to let them adopt local gun control measures because they say loose state firearms laws are wreaking havoc on Philadelphia streets.

They accuse state lawmakers — who were given the sole power to regulate Pennsylvania gun sales in a 1974 law — of abdicating their responsibility to protect the public.

Philadelphia’s 400 annual homicides have spawned the notorious nickname ‘‘Killadelphia.’‘

It's not the state's firearms law that are wrecking havoc

It’s the animals who live in Philadelphia who are. Why is this violence so prevalent in Philadelphia and other urban areas as opposed to suburban and rural parts of the state where the same gun laws are in effect?

Heads Up, Anonymous...

I’d refer you to this thread:

If you’d like to get an idea of why gun violence is so prevalent in Philadelphia, take the time to read through comments by JP, Pilt, and myself on that thread. I believe the three of us had a very thorough discussion that produced some interesting conclusions. Oh, and save the “animals” rhetoric, if you don’t mind. If you’re truly interested in stopping and/or preventing gun-related violence in the first place, you’d realize that a good number of kids on the street that happen to be caught up in bad situations aren’t exactly the predators you’d apparently make them out to be. Are there individuals beyond redemption who must be locked away for very long periods of time (if not life)? Of course. However, your average 16-year old “gang-banger” who is caught with a gun typically doesn’t fall into that category. Use the link above to find out why.

?Conclusions

I did not come across any conclusions. I read a bunch of opinions by a few individuals with no real knowledge or first hand experience. This is not to say that I have any first hand experience, but I know the difference between opinion and fact. This site is a great place to express one’s opinion, but it’s just recreational blogging and really doesn’t make a difference. Please don’t refer people to your previous postings as though you are an expert on the subject matter.

There are no experts on the tragedy of gun violence. There are only those that care to give an opinion and hopefully open some discussion. There are no experts, only victims.

Anonymous, you asked an open question in your first post. As a response, I directed you to a thread from a few weeks ago that, in my OPINION, discussed the issue at hand very thoroughly. I’m certainly not an expert on the issue of gun violence, and yes, I do enjoy “recreational blogging” quite a bit (and no, I don’t lay awake at night worrying if it “makes a difference” or not). I don’t have a PhD next to my name, so you’re correct when you say that all we can offer are our opinions. You apparently don’t agree with mine on this subject. That’s fine. Life goes on.

The heart of the problem is the failed “War on Drugs”.
If drugs were legalized, these crimes would disappear.
But,that would put many of the bureaucrats busy fighting the failed “War on Drugs” out of work.
Can’t have that.
The only way to protect, and add to their jobs, is to keep even more drugs illegal, even something as harmless as bhat.
And, not giving people the tools with which to defend themselves helps justify the perennial cries for “10,000 more policemen”.

Heart Of......

Absolutly, legalize drugs and let everyone have a gun. Archie Bunker? Is that you?

Gun Control - Perspective

Each year 120,000 Americans die as a result of accidents on the part of Doctors. (Source U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services)

Each year 1,500 Americans die as a result of an accident involving a firearm. (Source U.S. Dept of Justice)

If the Gun Grabbers were truely interested in saving lives, they would begin with the doctors.
