From today’s Pgh Post-Gazette. Rumor is the newly minted candidates may be stopping in Beaver County, though.
Sen. Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, is heading for Pennsylvania Friday to begin an “On the Road to Change” bus tour of battleground states, fresh off the Democratic National Convention in Denver. With Mr. Obama will be his running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, and both candidates’ wives — Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden.
The Obama campaign said the bus tour will start in Pennsylvania and make stops in Ohio and Michigan, but did not yet have specific details.
On the tour, Mr. Obama and Mr. Biden will “meet with voters to discuss America’s economic challenges and the Obama/Biden blueprint for change,” the campaign said.

First Stop
Beaver County may be their first stop… even if not they’ll be there on Friday for sure.
Greg, tell the Obama folks
Greg, the BC Times has an item up that says Obama/Biden may be at the Anchor Hocking plant in Monaca in the afternoon and then a picnic in Beaver in the evening. An evening event will conflict with the opening of high school football season here on Friday.
High school football is huge in Beaver County. It’s so big, the Steelers have scheduled their final preseason games so they won’t clash with the start of the HS season. Scheduling an event that conflicts with HS football will not ensure maximum attendance for the candidates. For example, I might be interested in going to Beaver, but I’ll be headed over to Riverside for BF’s opener. In fact, Beaver plays at New Brighton so many folks will be heading out of Beaver for that game, too. Spanik and Amadio ought to know this, but…

I think you get the wrong
I think you get the wrong impression – I don’t know the Obama folks! I’m just a simple citizen journalist. :-)
So modest!
You’re too modest, Greg. Anyway, maybe you can ask someone in the PA delegation a leading question. :)

Food for thought
What concerns me is the apparent lack of thought given to the fact that many loyal Dems, including me, can’t come to this event because we’ll be going to the games. To me, this is not a good way to start off a campaign.
pd
You have got to be kidding
It’s high school football. Yea, I know, Montana, Marino, yada, yada. There is life(reality) outside of football. No wonder this country is in the shape it is in. People get what they deserve. But, to each their own. If you choose football, fine, but don’t expect the world to revolve around high school football.
Not at all
First, I’ve already seen Obama in person in 2004 and was a lot closer (probably 15’) than I could hope to be at this event. This isn’t going to stop me from voting for Obama, but I think it does say something when a campaign doesn’t recognize local conditions that may effect turnout. It’s just dumb planning, IMO, and looks thrown together at the last minute with little thought. No doubt the venue in Beaver is small and should attract a capacity, if not overflow, crowd, but had the campaign done this event on a different day, the crowd would be better and contain more of the voters he wants to woo.
Further, if Obama wants to reach blue-collar/Clinton voters, there aren’t many of them in Beaver. They are in towns like Beaver Falls, Aliquippa, Midland, New Brighton, Rochester, Monaca, etc. Obama has been to Beaver County a couple of times now and he has yet to set foot in one of the struggling old mill towns here.
To me, these are just signs Obama’s campaign doesn’t get Pennsylvania.

He was in Monaca earlier in the day
Hi pd,
Your comments are fair, but, truth-be-told, wherever Obama / Biden went tonight, HS football would be kicking off. This is probably why they went out of their way to spend some time in Monaca earlier today.
I wish that we could let go of our cynacism about politicians’ motives and realize they’re just doing the best they can with the schedule. The stars will never totally align no matter what we do. What counts is that they’re out in our part of the country, trying to hear us and listen to what we have to say.
Ultimately, it’s our choice whether we think it’s worth talking to them, or not.
Thanks.
