PA Legislature... Pretty Darn Bad

HOW BAD IS the Pennsylvania Legislature?

So bad, they’re talking about it in Washington.

The Brookings Institution, the oldest think tank in America, a centrist (leaning left) nonprofit, almost always referred to as “the prestigious” Brookings, held a daylong round table this week on our own beloved Legislature.

More than 30 smart people from academia, foundations and reform- and issues-oriented groups, all with Pennsylvania ties, gathered for a work-through-lunch day of idea pitching.

Time for change in Pennsylvania's 19th district

Since 2001, the people of Pennsylvania’s 19th district have had as their representative Todd Platts. During his time in office, he has stood as a firm ally of the Bush administration on a wide range issues (most notably, the war in Iraq) and has failed to provide the independent voice in congress that this country needs. All of this could change in November’s election. The country is ready for change and the way to begin for the people of the 19th is to elect Phil Avillo as their congressman. Avillo will provide the voice needed to fight for the people of this district. He has been standing up for the people of his country and his community since the age of 17 when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was awarded a purple heart for a wound which resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee. He spent over 20 years on the York Suburban school board and now serves his community as a professor of American History at York College of Pennsylvania. It is time to bring a fresh voice into congress and Avillo is just the right person for the job. For more information including Avillo’s stances on important issues, you can visit www.avillo08.com.

????

For one thing, Baer was speaking about the PA “State” Legislature in his article. It’d be great if you were on topic instead of throwing a campaign bio at us…

Come on, try harder next time. Think before you post like a jackrabbit on meth. I realize that you want your guy to win, but try reaching voters in the district (doors, phones, lit, tv, mail) rather than hoping against hope that a post might be read by a voter in that congressional district.

Re: 7/23/08 Article by Anonymous

This “article” by “Anonymous” is a piece of garbage and says absolutely nothing. All we know is that the person does not agree with the current administration policies, and he faults Mr. Platts for supporting the adminsitration. Besides that, we know nothing about what Mr. Avillo supports! Why is trash like this allowed to be printed on editorial pages???

That’s the beauty of a

That’s the beauty of a BLOG. Anyone can say anything and stay Anonymous.

My apologies to anyone who was offended by the post...

I sincerely apologize for anyone who did not appreciate the post about Mr. Avillo. The reason I chose this forum to post was because while it may not be directly on topic, this is a place where there apears to be a great interest in Pennsylvania politics, thus I thought there might be some interest about this race in Pennsylvania’s 19th. I also believe that while the corruption in the state legislature upsets many people, many people are also frustrated by our congress. In response to not knowing what Mr. Avillo supports, I did not think anyone would want to read a bunch of policy positions on this editorial page which is why I directed anyone interested to view the campaign website where all of this information can be found. Please view www.avillo08.com for this information if you so desire.

Pa. legislature beauty contest

And again Penna comes in below the middle in good government. Teddy Roosevelt knew it on his way to Washington to be sworn in as President and not much has changed. But surely we are not last!!!!! Yes they know how to sit on legislation until the cows come home, yes they know how to run circles around the State Constitution, yes, they can find ways to have marvelous perks, adoring staff members and voters, but they are not the worst, surely? Just because two cities and a middle ground have completely different ideas on how to govern and never how to look at the big picture, does that mean they are last? Voters elect their man and that man gives them what they want….Voters need to have a statewide vision also not whats in it for me vision. Better civic classes might be a way to gain better government in the future.
