Poll: Bill DeWeese should go

A majority of Pennsylvania voters say House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese shares some of the blame for the corruption and other problems in the Legislature and should give up his leadership post.

By 53 percent to 11 percent, Pennsylvanians believe DeWeese should step down, according to the Quinnipiac University poll of nearly 1,600 voters.

The decision whether DeWeese should stay as House majority leader is completely separate from the issue of whether the citizens of Greene County want to reelect him as their representative. When DeWeese is functioning as majority leader, he is representing the interests of all of the Democratic members of the House. It is therefore up to them whether he should remain as leader.

Forgive me, I thought the article was refering to whether or not DeWeese should resign from the General Assembly – a decision only Greene County citizens can make (barring a conviction in this mess, of course). However, referring to his leadership post, he should unquestionably step down. In fact, it’s unbelievable and slap in the face of all Pennsylvanians that he hasn’t made the honorable move yet.
