Mellow's Board Position Criticized

Three consumer watchdog groups have questioned state Sen. Robert Mellow’s appointment to the Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania Board of Directors.

Citing the recent bonus scandal that rocked Harrisburg, they said Mellow’s paid position on the health insurance provider’s board is ill-timed, unwise and reeks of questionable ethics.

Mellow dismissed the criticism and staunchly defended his ability to remain impartial. Mellow’s May appointment to the Hospital Service Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania Board – the insurer’s corporate name – was announced July 29. He will earn a base pay of $25,000 with the ability to earn about $10,000 more per year factoring in meeting attendance stipends.

Blue Cross board Chairman John Moses, a Wilkes-Barre attorney, said he was honored that Mellow joined the board.

This is disgusting. When a sitting legislator makes an extra four thousand dollars a month on a board that depends on legislative protection to continue expanding their medical monopoly, all of us will suffer.
Surprised that the liberals aren’t complaining.
They never do, when a Democrat is getting money. They don’t complain because they want some, too.

Mellow/Liberals

Count me in. This liberal Democrat is no supporter of Bob Mellow. He has been in office too long and has become too comfortable. Mellow is the sam guy that orchestrated the gaming commission appoinments to ensure Louis DeNaples was a shoe-in for a license. Mellow appointed his freind Ray Angeli, who has direct ties to Louis DeNaples to the gaming commission. When a constituent sent Mellow an email questiong a possible conflict of interest, Mellow replied by telling him to “get a life.” This is the guy who also defended the pay raises as being well earned. Keep in mind this guy has kicked around the idea of running for governor. It is in the best interest of the state to make sure this guy is not re-elected to his current seat or elected to any other seat.
