No Influence
By having the primary so late – we here in PA have no influence over who the nominee is. We should at least move it up to Super Tuesday.
Late Primary may be good
Actually there is a chance this year either or both parties candidates won’t be decided by then. So if that happens PA will be more important then ever.
primaries are too early
It would be even better if all of the primaries and caucauses are moved significantly closer to the conventions. A lot of the remaining candidates have been selected for us by the media who named and constantly mentioned the front runners and did their best to ignore other candidates.
Moving more primaries up just extends the campaigning time resulting in more nastiness that turns voters off.
Super Tuesday
Give Pennsylvania a voice, don’t let us just get to pick from the leftovers.

Move the Date!
I agree, move the date to super Tuesday!
Move up the date
Candidates are starting to dropout of the race already. How does it make sense that our state gets no initial say? It would make the most sense to have all primary elections on the same day.
electoral college
the electoral college is complete shit. its time for one man – one vote
Electoral College
The electoral college is worthless because our federal government has taken over many of the responsibilities that were intended to be handled within individual states. To me, eliminating the electoral college would serve to help this long-term trend of federalization. Whether you agree with these developments or not, it is pertinent to the electoral college debate.
As for having such a late primary…. I agree. Ideally, everyone would just vote on the same day. Another better alternative would be to vote twice. After the first primary, people drop out and another held (again nationwide). That way we as a country can shift our votes appropriately between candidates within each party.
Pennsylvanians should have
Pennsylvanians should have a voice in who the presidential canidates will be move the primaries to Super Tuesday and let our voices be heard!
Why so late?
What i want to know is why so late?
people must know it’ll matter less?
Super Tuesday seems like a no brainer.
Oh and without a doubt…should be one man one vote.
I agree with previous
I agree with previous posters. The primaries should be held on the same day, nation-wide, just like the presidential vote. We should also get rid of the electoral college, and implement instant runoff voting.

Keep the electoral college
...but start teaching people American history. IMO, very few people actually know American history so they’re doomed to make the same mistakes that our country has already gone through.
Just say no to MOB RULE!
Re: Keep the electoral college
^^ I totally forgot about instant runoff voting. Yeah, we should do that.
Move the Date
We need our primary on Super Tuesday. Why is every state ahead of PA in moving their dates up? Why are we last in everything?
Make it Earlier
I agree with all the previous. WE NEED TO MOVE OUR DATE UP.
PA is treated as a national joke
I can’t understand why states like Iowa and New Hampshire get to control who can run for President and PA, with two large cities (Phila and Pitt) get shoved to the back of the line and disenfranchised of our right to pick Presidential candidates. The current system denies U.S. citizens an equal vote because of the way the primary system operates. PA citizens NEED to petition the legislature and Governor in PA to move the primary to no later than Super Tuesday.
PA Primary
It is looking like PA’s Primary will be significant after all.
Super Tsunami Tuesday is really a bad thing. Many of the states that opted for that date are going to find candidates picking and choosing where they can go anyway since campaign dollars among the top tier contenders is running rather low.
The race for each party’s nomination does not look like it will be settled any time soon. Sometimes it is best to sit back and take the long view instead of getting all worked up about nothing.
Electoral College Works
The electoral college system works but should be broken down to the county level within each state. Take PA for example: The majority of the counties voted republican but Pitt & Phili carried the state democrat because of their population. A popular vote would silence the voice of rural communities.
open primaries and all on same day
we need open primaries and all of them should be held the same day. no one state or vote should be more important than another.
national primary
Although a national primary sounds like a good idea, the cost and logistics would make it unfeasible. The money alone involved to run a campaign like that would ensure only the richest would be viable candidates. Look how much they spend in the first few states alone.
A national primary, and 1 man 1 vote would only ensure that the campaigns would be fought in highly populated cities and states, areas like new york, CA, etc. at least this way the first few states get a real good look at the candidates. In a national election we’d be luck to catch a few hours of debates along with the hight of bias, the 30 second commercial spot.
Its nowhere near a perfect system, but I don’t a have a big problem letting states like NH and Nevada have their say first, we all know those small states will be lucky to catch a whiff of a candidate.
If a candidate has true appeal, they can rebound from early losses, or they can decide to skip them all together and focus on the big ones, a la Giuliani… though that doesn’t seem to be working out that well. Finally someone with some brains...
I am so glad to see at least one individual on here actually understands the finer points of election law. While the election process as it stands may not be perfect, the fact is, a one day / national primary would indeed disenfranchise a majority of the United States voters. Just as you said, the candidates would campaign ONLY in the large populous states and ignore states like Pennsylvania. It’s truly troubling that people who don’t even grasp this simple concept are choosing our leaders. Freaking morons!
electoral college
why cant we change/adopt a great idea that seems to be on the minds of many people, esp here and i am sure would be the consenous of many—-ONE PERSON ONE VOTE!!! seems to be a great way to cut out all the special interests of political groups and their agendas which we all know have infiltrated our local stste and federal govts
one person... one vote
Im not liking that one. LOL j/k…
What’s that Daley from chicago used to say , “Vote early vote often.”
Looks like things are getting intense in this post.
Some people need to go back to school!
Jesus H. Christ people, ONE PERSON ONE VOTE?!?!? How god damn dumb are you? We are a Democratic Republic NOT a full and true democracy and it was INTENDED that way! If anything, it would increase special interest political groups, who would try and push their views on others through get out the vote efforts. In a true one man, one vote, democracy majority rules. Therefore the group with the most money to back their political agenda would drive the voter turnout effort and subvert the process.
Just because you, and most Americans, don’t understand the electoral college doesn’t mean we should get rid of it.
Bottom of the IQ pool...
Profanity to get your point accross??? Where does that put you in the IQ pool. Most thinking persons will opt for the oposite of your advice just because of that.
And some need to go to church
Grow up and get off your high horse. Understanding the electoral college is complicated no matter how intelligent one is. However, maybe for the rest of us morons you would like to explain it in detail. I’d be happy to see your reply.
Was that really necessary?
Is it really necessary to berate and insult people to make your point or express your opinion? While it may not be the same opinion as yours, at least people are taking enough of an interest to express an opinion. Comments like yours are a great way to discourage people from ever coming back to this site again. In order to be respected, you have to give respect. Try it sometime…..
We the people need term limits
MAX 8 years in 8 years out
Electoral blah blah blah
It’s interesting to see how the comments go along just fine with differing views and ideas and then it happens. Some one that can’t understand why everyone doesn’t think exactly the way they do pops up and destroys any chance of a civilized discussion. Sadly, it is this voice that most of America hears anymore. There are ways to change things and there are ways to keep the status quo…just listen to each other and respect each other.
