U.S. Rep. Chris Carney ended months of mulling it over and announced Thursday he’s backing New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for president. In a statement, Mr. Carney said he met with Mrs. Clinton on Wednesday, “and let her know Thursday that I am supporting her.”
“I have watched this primary process very closely, and as I said I would do, I have weighed the temperament and leadership displayed by Sens. Clinton and Obama during the course of this campaign,” Mr. Carney said in a statement. “We are extremely fortunate to have two very strong candidates vying to lead our nation. Pennsylvania’s 10th (Congressional) District (voters) overwhelmingly chose Sen. Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary and I will respect their decision.”
Rebecca Gale, his press secretary, said he was traveling with a congressional delegation to the U.S-Mexico border to evaluate border security and was unavailable for comment. Mrs. Clinton met with Mr. Carney and other uncommitted superdelegates Wednesday at the headquarters of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in Washington, D.C. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama met with them Thursday, but Mr. Carney did not attend that meeting, Ms. Gale said.

Unfortunately
Congressman Carney must play the re-election game. Politicians are really a pathetic bunch!
learn to spell electable correctly!!
You are sadly mistaken and I hope we don’t have to learn the hard way by going with your way of thinking.
Hilary you are not electeable
Hilary Clinton, I strongly believe now that its you that is not electeable. You claim you can win only white working class and white uneducated American votes and this is the coalition you are going to build to win the general election. I know many African Americans, Hispanics and Latinos American, working class voters that have voted for you against Obama. I think this is insulting and it goes to confirm that your story on sniper fires in Bosnia was not a misstatement but a lie. Since the loss in North Carolina, you have really shown to us who you are and I can not continue to stand with such your candidacy. I am a white and I voted for you not because you are a white but because of my mother since I saw your candidacy in that perspective but with your recent comments Hilary, count me out.
Mike
You Make No Sense
Mike,
Your argument makes absolutely no sense. Look at the results of almost every election so far. She IS winning these coalitions, and the Democrats in the past were not able to win them in the General Election. I am a Hillary supporter, but I will vigorously campaign for whoever the nominee of our party is. Hillary did not say only she can win these groups, she said she IS winning a broad coalition of swing voters that traditionally will fall under the Republican category if they feel they are unwanted by the Democrats. And I completely agree. I come from Pennsylvania, one of the swing states which Democrats need to win. With a below-average African-American population, and an above-average elderly population, the odds strongly favor Hillary. You have to use the primaries as some sort of gauge, and that is to determine who supports who.
Again, Hillary never said she is only supported by Whites, or that only she can garner the support of Whites, that is a misconception on your part. Anyone who studies political science (as do I, Harvard ’11) will tell you that the results don’t lie, and they will tell you who your base is.
Would it be sexist of me to say that Hillary gets a majority of the female vote? Or racist if I said that Obama gets most of the Black vote? No it wouldn’t, because its a verifiable observation. You need to realize this.
And regardless of what happens, the Democratic Party will be unified behind a candidate. We will win in 2008, and we will make history, and make George W. Bush history. I want to see both of these strong candidates on the ticket, regardless of order.
My opinion is, with Hillary’s strength over McCain in the swing states, and Obama’s broad coalition of young voters, we can secure the White House for Democrats for 16 years. Who would argue against that? I think they would both make excellent Presidents, so why not hedge our bets and get as much out of this historic moment as possible.
I’m tired of Obama people attacking Hillary people, and Hillary people attacking Obama people. We are all Democrats, and we will all be united. Character assassination is unnecessary and unproductive. We will win, and we will win big.
Oh Mike, Please!
Let’s get real. Obama lies much more than Hillary does, and is much better at it. HRC’s Bosnia mistatement had at least been accurate in her book, and there is reason believe that she had experienced vague sniper fire in other moments in her past that could have gotten mixed up. But, these are small and not nearly as troublesome as many of the lies Obama has said, such as saying his parents first met romantically on the Civil Rights march, yet at a time that he was already 4 years old. The real problem with Obama’s campaign is described here:
http://savagepolitics.com/?p=336
Originally, I had looked forward to voting for Obama in the GE, but will more than likely stay home even if Hillary is on the ticket as VP. I simply will not vote either for a racist or for one who uses race-baiting against the innocent. Anyone and any campaign staff who falsely accuses others of racism will lose my vote right away. I just cannot vote for someone who resort to that level just to win over Black sympathies and White guilt. Racism should never be used for political gains.
Anonymous...creative!
As an American who’s circle of friends and relatives is as varied as a box of Crayolas, I really think you need to relax. Racial issues have been a part of America since the first white people landed here. Learn to deal with it.
There aren’t that many white Americans voting against Barack because he’s black and their surely aren’t many white Americans voting for him out of some sense of guilt. Stop insulting people like that.
To not understand that most politicians, the Clinton’s included, would do anything to win is just silly. The numbers don’t spell the end of Obama, but Hillary had the option of carefully painting him as the black candidate and she took it. Undoubtedly, it helped in some circles.
The real problem with politics is people who get their panties in a wad when their candidate loses. I’ve never voted for a winning candidate in the democratic primary. I always vote my heart and my head, not party line. But I’ve always worked and voted for the nominee. What is so different about this year? The only thing I gather from reading post after post from angry Clinton supporters is that it was her turn and dammit he should have waited. And that, my friend, is no reason to vote for McCain or stay home.
Lick your wounds and realize either of the final two candidates would have been acceptable. And stop believing all the BS about BO. He didn’t do most of the crap you read any more than Hillary killed Vince Foster with her bare hands. You’re being had.
Finally, Finally!!! A
Finally, Finally!!! A comment worth reading in this entire thread. As you say, a politician will do anything to get in that office and Clinton is doing what any other candidate will do when their numbers are slipping. If the tables were turned and Obama’s numbers were on the downside with very little time left, he would bring out the “mudslinger” and have at it. Its a shame it has come to this, but this is American politics. But it didn’t come to this over night and mudslinging isn’t new. Strange enough, there were those that were not thrilled with General Washington becoming our 1st leader and had no problem speaking out about his lackluster performance as military leader during the war. Abe Lincoln and John Kennedy both had their share of dirt thrown up in their face. So this business about Clinton’s campaign tone and Obama’s pastor is all politics and we, as Americans, should be used to it by now and be able to simply turn it off. As long as we listen, they will sling the mud.

Heaven
First of all, there is no God. It’s all a fairy tale. Second, even if there is, I’m certain (God?) does not favor one race over another. Third: this is a question-Why are all the religious freaks so damn racist?
God = family
God is life, God is family. God is when you look at your dad and return his smile. God is tradition, honesty, and faithfulness.
When I look at Hillary, I fall in love with her like when I look at my own mother. Any man that looks down upon Hillary the wrong way has no reason and I believe is making up things in his head.
God does not favor one race over the other. He treasures culture and especially cares for the innocent. Plus it would be sad to wish anybody bad luck, even if they want to see you dead because they ruined their own lives already.
Let me guess, you know God loves you already? You’re just trying to make a point or appeal to not only white women. Don’t be surprised if what your mother told you ends up being truth. Boy! I’m still a great person, it’s a sin for black girls to try and put down your mother to their color. I don’t understand them, and don’t be surprised if they have no brothers. God works in strange ways.
Please. Why is it only
Please. Why is it only blacks who are allowed to talk about race? If a white person comments on race, it’s considered offensive. What a ridiculous double standard.
Hilary drops so low
The impact of Hilary’s comments about white working class and uneducated Americans is so damaging to her reputation. Why has she decided to drop so low?
What is a racist comment?
Is it acceptable for Senator Obama’s supporters (Brazile in CNN on 5/6, as an example) to make negative comments about Hispanic and White working class voters? I have not heard any outrage about Brazile’s reference to “joe six pack” and “jane six pack” within the context of her discussion about white working class voters. I have not heard any outrage about Brazile’s opinion of how insignificant the Hispanic/Latino and white working class vote is compared to the “new” voters (Blacks, Youth, College educated) in Barack Obama’s “new democratic party”? Senator Clinton’s comment about her support by white working class voters is based on facts but was quickly labeled as a racist comment by Senator Obama’s campaign and supporters. What is a racist comment? Who can say what? What is the “new democratic party”?
Carmine,
Latino Voter in New York who is Mad as Hell
Carmine...it's how she said it
Hillary said “working Americans, hard working Americans, white Americans”. She said it as if no one is hard working or working except white people. Listen to her tone again and you’ll hear it.
I don’t think she meant it like that at all, I think she misspoke and after this long campaign I would have done much worse more often if it was me.
My problem with this is that, as with most mistakes, she won’t admit it was one. We’ve lived through 8 years of an infallible president, do you think we need 4 more?
It’s time to heal.
Right on, Carmine — just
Right on, Carmine — just what I said in another post. Whites aren’t “allowed” to discuss race.
Mike for Hillary
If it’s the vote of the uneducated american Hillary is counting on, after trying to read this, I have to say she can count on you.
we are with you!!!!!
we are with you all the way hillary no matter what!we love you and we voted for you and i still think you are going to be the nominee in november…i wish you the best and when you president invite me to the white house xoxoxo

Just Donated to HillaryClinton.
Nothing to say, My Donation to Hillary’s Campaign says it all.
Hillary You are the Best
I believe the entire world is stunned by the unconscionable behavior of so many “humans” towards Hillary Clinton, who will go down in history as one of the greatest American women to have ever lived. She is truly a role model ahead of her time and has proven throughout this unprecedented campaign that she has what it takes to be a great President.
It's over
Hillary,
It’s time to hang it up and let the winner – Obama – get on with the business of running against McCain for the White House.
lol
You wish Hillary will win Look at the polls and be more aware you have no idea and further more Obama is not experciend enough to run our country its ludrcrios to think he can we wont stop till we get to the white house its not over till the fat lady sings and so far she hasnt I will be laughing all the way when Hillary gets voted in for President
Hillary is the best candidate
The contrast between Hillary and Obama is so strong that majority fo the people are turned off by Obama’s arrogance and the media’s bias. Without the media’s free pass on Obama, Obama did not prevail. Comparing the two candidates, Hillary has a vision for all Americans while Obama does not have a single agenda for all. Again, Hillary speaks of issues and solutions while Obama does not have any issues nor solutions. Hillary does not have assocations with radicals while Obama has a lot of associations with radicals like Rev. Wright, Rezco, and many others. Hillary has experience while Obama does not have that experience. We are electing a commander in chief not sales representative of a company With those few examples, whom do we consider the best candidate for presidency? Folks and delegates/superdelegates, don’t waste your votes. Remember, this is America and majority are suffering from financial and economic hardship. Hillary is the best candidate.
Amen to that
Well said well said!
“Touche”...
I’m so turned off by the Obama camp and their supporters that if he is the democratic nominee (especially if they don’t count my home state of Florida) I will be sure to vote for McCain, ever so gladly. It will be like the smell of fresh air to see him lose for all the double standards and hype he got from the media. This election year deserves to go with Hillary and if it’s not her then you can forget me and I would assume millions of others from being called democrats. Republicans here we come! (Assuming Hillary isn’t the nominee)
No joke

Hillary embodies the American spirit
Hillary is a perfect example of the American spirit i.e. hardworking, passionate, visionary, kind, energetic, focused.
Sales Rep In Chief (is the song different?)
Actually, I hate to say it, but we ARE hiring a sales rep; someone who can successfully support and represent the American “brand” to the rest of the world. Someone who can convince people that we’ve turned the corner on this eight-year headache that has been the Bush administration. Someone who people will follow!
I know all the Commander in Chief arguments, but putting Eisenhower aside, no President in our lifetime has really had “the right stuff” to be CIC. Mostly, you need someone who is smart enough to listen to their military commanders and then make the correct call in the end. I’m betting Obama is smart enough to do just that.
Pilt
Thank you Rep. Carney!
Of all three candidates, Hillary Clinton would be the best president. She is the only Dem who can beat McCain. Superdelegates have a huge responsibility to make sure she gets the nomination.
Time for Hillary to hang it up, all right...
...and run as an INDEPENDENT. Why the hell should we Clinton supporters not have the right to vote for the candidate of our choice in the general election? Fact is, we do — we can write in a vote for Hillary on our ballot in Novemeber.
But why should we have to do that? Political parties shouldn’t even exist. We should all vote for whomever we feel is the most qualified candidate.
If Hillary doesn’t get the nomination and doesn’t run as an independent, I’m going to organize a national write-in vote campaign, I kid you not.
thats fine
i like the clintons also. At some point, it has to be said that the upcoming election is not about the clintons, or the obamas. It is about the democratic party winning the election. My only point is that u hear these people saying “if hillary doesnt win… im voting republican” or “if obama doesnt win… im voting republican” That mentality is sheer shortsighted stupidity… regardless of how this turns out… we have to go all out to defeat the GOP. Im a John Edwards supporter, probably the most electable in the general, but i havent childishly folded… i hope obama or clinton supporters wont do so.
good point
the election shouldnt be about the clintons or the obamas… and some people make it so. It is selfish.
Excuse me?
Much to the chagrin of some supporters, the two Democratic candidates are NOT interchangeable. So, yes it is about Hillary Rodham Clinton vs. Barack Hussein Obama; it really, really is, kids. There’s a world of difference between them; and anyone who can’t see it isn’t paying attention – and probably shouldn’t be voting!
He should be President, she
He should be President, she should be President, He should, she should, he should, she should. Ain’t nobody’s mind bein’ changed here. Let’s close this thing and move on to something else…........Please!!!
