Democrats Set to Defect to McCain if Clinton Loses

In the new Franklin & Marshall College Poll some good news for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, and some troubling news for Democrats.

Clinton leads Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, 51% to 35% — increasing her lead from February, when she was up 44% to 37%. She leads among young voters, wealthier voters…voters in virtually every demographic group, with the exceptions of Philly voters and non-whites.

In a sign of just how divisive and ugly the Democratic fight has gotten, only 53% of Clinton voters say they’ll vote for Obama should he become the nominee. Nineteen percent say they’ll go for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and 13% say they won’t vote.

Mondegreenie

This article is correct. I and many of my friends will not vote for Senator Obama. If Senator Clinton is not the nominee, we’ll vote for Senator McCain. The Democratic party better wake up fast before it finds itself with another Kerry/Dukakis…

A lot of us in Iowa and

A lot of us in Iowa and Illinois feel the EXACT same way. Good for you.

Dear "Anonymous"

Whoever is the Democratic nominee, whether Obama or Clinton, will get my vote in November.
To you and your friends who say they will not support Obama if he wins nomination: Have enough integrity to take leave of the Democratic Party.
Sorry you’re not feeling well about the wheels coming off Hillary’s campaign.
Matt Thomas

I'm supporting the Democratic nominee

No matter who it is — Obama or Clinton.

The last thing this country needs is John McCain picking our Supreme Court Justices and starting a war with Iran.

McCain = 4 More Years of Bush. Plus, McCain has become Joe Lieberman’s puppet. Lieberman tells him what to say. McCain doesn’t know the difference between Sunni, Shia, Al Qaeda in Iraq, insurgents, whatever. America has too many serious issues for McCain to be running this country.

Clinton for President

Snoopy, from Tennessee

I agree, If Clinton isn’t the nominee. My self,
relatives and all my friends are going to vote for McCane. I think he is a better choice over Obama. We certainly don’t need anymore hate spread over America. by the likes of Senator Obamas Minister. As the saying goes, you are like who you associate with.

So they aren't Democrats or what?

Are those Republicans crossing over for Clinton because she’s easier to beat? I don’t get it.

What do you think will

What do you think will happen if Clinton wins. All of those that voted for Obama in the primaries will definitely vote for McCain or stay at home

I disagree!

I support Obama, but if Hillary gets the nomination, I will vote for her. Haven’t the Republicans done enough damage to our nation by their continual support of Bush? Also, the economy is in bad shape. How can anyone vote for McCain who admitted that he knows very little about econmics. The Democrats should win the presidency this election. I hope it won’t be “sore losers” who hand the presidency to McCain.

Obama's speech

Sorry for being too corrosive but Reverend Wright needs to be aired out.

God Dam America, it only takes three seconds to say it, but says a lot. Honestly, when another person political or other, other than Obama, would say they have not heard such talk from their most regarded mentor openly or privately for twenty years sends a message. Then turns around in a speech as Obama did, openly, say he, Obama, did hear such suggestions from a mentor, as his Reverend Wright near and dear Uncle. Perhaps, now Obama says, Reverend Wright did not say such things so vulgar, or, not that often, or that harsh, but Obama is willing to admit all the while changing his mind openly in a public speech. Here the critics and far experienced political persons and analysis predict his speech as the greatest thing that could happen.

America don’t you see what happening here, and how this man is treating your mind with slogan management “ Change We Can Believe In “ of course and Obama himself can change his mind and you all should believe in him. Obnoxiously, very, theocratic. And a crowd in the trance that believes Obama should be able to change his mind and you should believe in him. Absolutely driving the Democratic Party into a physiological mess that the Republicans and Mainstream Media is handily doing now. There are worse mental analogies ahead that will divide the country and it was meant to do so.

That simple change is what we all are to believe in ? Even if Obama lie’s in change for his own benefit and his goal, it is something to believe in ? To the average American not realizing, Obama, has been given some powerful tools from his Harvard education, and is abusing them. Obama is seemingly assiduously skilled in the art of contextual streaming giving obnoxious flip flopping that looks so smooth one finally figures they have been swindled by a master swindler. You know many of the family of Osama Bin Laden, or Osama himself was educated at Harvard. Be sure these Arabs have a plan to last eternity.

Now do you feel the deep penetrating theocratic problem America is facing. And Mainstream Media is avoiding all the controversy till perhaps Obama is chosen by the Democrats as a nominee, which will likely turn the dream ticket into a night mare. America seemingly trains our enemy, worse we fund them through the Bush and Company Bin laden connection. Then America is convinced to spread freedom when in real time American life and money is spreading an Islamic dogma.

Reminds me of the ten year old in total denial then switches to realizing he would get caught in a lie. But, here we are doing this debate with armies of first line Mainstream Media Journalist that are shifting and supporting between each other with skills that are savored from the ancient sophists honed in the art of convincing you that left is right, or left is wrong, liberal is nuts, conservative is the best, all very confusing and meant to be. All influence by Arab Petro-Dollars and Jewish fear.

Fear not, vote Hillary 2008.

good try

First of all, Rev. Jeremiah Wright is an ex-Marine. Any veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. has the right to say whatever he damn well pleases.

Secondly, Bill Clinton himself invited Jeremiah Wright to an event at the White House, and Hillary Clinton graciously attended the event as well.

Thirdly, I would argue that Rev. Wright has done more good for underprivileged people in a typical week than most others do in their lifetimes.

As for truthfulness, there is no question which candidate is the more honest one. Clinton said that she opposed NAFTA from the start, when in fact she actually worked to get it passed.

Clinton said she had to “dodge bullets” when she visited Bosnia as First Lady, when in fact she was warmly welcomed by an 8-year-old girl who greeted her and Chelsea with kisses.

Clinton said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and posed an imminent threat to the U.S. That turned about to be false as well. I could go on.

Senator Obama, on the other hand, has told the truth about Iraq from the start. He’s fought for lobbyist reform in the Senate. He supports campaign finance reform, health care reform, education reform, NAFTA reform … I can go on. He has the character that a U.S President should have. And no matter how badly you try to besmirch and denigrate him, people can recognize a outstanding leader when they see one. Barack Obama is the real deal.

truth

given thatthe bible is truth, obama couldn’t read the truth from the bible-

Rev Wright Quoting Ed Peck Us Ambassador in Sermon

Listen to the sermon yourself.

http://essence.typepad.com/news/2008/03/listen-to-...
About 20 minutes in he begins quoting Edward Peck and asking us not to go to war for revenge.

Strange that this isn’t being reported.

obama speech

i think obama’s speech on race was insulting to the white people of america i am a 62 yr. old white man and firmly believe that the most racist people in the u.s. are blacks and if obama were to be elected president so many white people would be soooo sorry for they are the ones that are being hoodwinked and bamboozled by barack obama.

Few "Democrats" will vote McCain

I’m voting for Clinton in the primary, but if Obama wins, he’ll have my vote hands down. These alledged Democrats who’ll vote for Clinton, but not Obama if he wins aren’t Democrats, they are Republicans regardless of their official party registration.

pd

to few Democrats will vote McCain

That’s a bunch of hooey and you know it. I for one will vote for McCain or Nader but never Obama if Hilary is not nominated. At least we know where he stands. I have no clue where Obama stands especially after he lied about his reverend! OMG what ends will he go to? Even turned in his poor grandmother who is now cringing everytime she leaves the house. What a guy! Do you really want someone with those kinds of values in our White House? I think not. He is such a baby as well. Cries every time someone questions anything or he thinks someone is implying something. Yikes. Not good attitude for a world leader. They will run over him like a big vacuum cleaner. Hilary has huevos.

for the good

Look. I am a Clinton supporter. I know that if you sit back and not get sucked into all the spinning you are better off as a whole. I try to be sensible. I have been around a while to remember other races.

I do have to note that Obama did not distance himself sooner. His speech is nice, but there was some anger inside me too. I felt as though I was being sold or distracted from the real issues.
I am not against retrospection. But that is something I have done throughout my life, not in one moment of good speech. I feel as though he is “guilting” people. Then those people get caught up in the moment of their own perceived guilt and retrospection instead of getting the answer we needed, we got sideswiped.

I want someone who already knows how to get things done. I do NOT want someone who doesn’t understand, what he doesn’t know.

I also don’t like the way people belittle the job as “First Lady”. It is a job that requires knowledge of what is going on behind the “curtain”. Perhaps if that title was changed to a “non-gender” title it mean more to people. In HRC’s case, she went beyond that “mold”. You can pick it apart all you want to, but I do remember what she was doing at the time.

If we are going to listent to Obama’s speech, then also remember “words” that he used such as “claws” and “she must be feeling a little down and feels the need to attack to boost herself” (not exact quote) but it sticks in my head. If someone actually understood what he was saying in regards to those comments, then that would matter too…wouldn’t it?

I wonder if the “guilting” and retrospecting is really happening both ways here.

New Yorker story on Clinton and Obama

There was a great story in the New Yorker magazine comparing Clinton and Obama. It really crystallized for me why I’ll vote for Sen Clinton. She understands that there has to be a house-cleaning, not just with the usual political appointees like cabinet secretaries and such, but it has to go much deeper into the federal government to those reactionary republicans who were hired by the Bush political appointees and now have tried to burrow into the day-to-day operations of government. These are the people who have to be purged because if left in place they will continue to hire like-minded, like-thinking, true believer civil servants through the merit hiring system. Even with a change at the top, policies preferred by the reactionary, anti-government groups will continue to be promoted and fostered within the federal government. If you need an example, look no further than the Civil Rights Division of DoJ and how it was undermined by political appointees hiring career civil servants based on party ideology.

I’m not sure Obama truly understands this and that no matter what he says or how well he says it, if he doesn’t have the career federal civil servants in place to give him objective advice, he’ll never move his agenda forward as much as he wants.

pd

well if you do not feel that barrack will be your choice

well if he is the nomee and you say you will notr vote for him well we do not need to finish the primary because there are far more people who say they will not vote for hillary so you guy better wake up and smell the coffe because we will four more year of the same george bush in the white house. so we should say the election is over our president is mccain.

Unrepentant heathen

Listen, perhaps because I’m an unrepentant heathen, the words of Rev. Wright bounce off me. From my perspective, he is nothing more than a politician himself, giving a speech before his own little “congress” which he hopes will make him popular. He wants to hear those “Amen Brothers!” from the pews the same way a comedian wants the instant feedback of laughter. And for much the say reason; personal ego gratification. What a heady experience that must be…

For those Democrats who have bemoaned the GOP’s twenty year crusade to interleave religion with secular politics, I can only say; you get what you pay for. Obama is paying the price for stepping over that line and tying himself too closely to people who are neither elected or answerable to anyone other than a “higher power.”

You simply can’t have it both ways. While many religious figures do remarkably “good works,” I don’t want them being part of any campaign or administration.

Pilt

getting things done?

Hillary had a chance to “get things done” by voting NO on the Iraq War, and speaking out against it.

Hillary DID “get things done” by supporting NAFTA as First Lady.

Both of these things —- the Iraq War and NAFTA — have done great damage to our economy, our military, and our global standing. She should have known better.

On the biggest issues of our time, the Iraq War, she screwed up. She doesn’t deserve to be president.

wow

These Democrats who are willing to vote for McCain if Clinton doesn’t get the nomination have to understand what this means in the big picture. It means we stay in Iraq for decades. It means we have a president who is 72 years old and has a history of heart problems. It means we will have 3 democratic supreme court justices retiring during his term that will be replaced by judges of McCain’s choosing. It also means you have a president who has no clue about how to fix the economy.

Mc Cain is a reckless

Mc Cain is a reckless militarist and a faithful Republican right-winger.How can anyone who considers her/himself centrist or progressive even consider voting for him?? Learn something about him other than the “prisoner of war” mantra and you’ll see he is totally unfit-whereas either Obama or Clinton could be a good president for these times.

unfortunate

It will be unfortunate if people will not vote for Barack because of his race. What they fail to understand is that he is white as well.Actually I think anyone who votes for McBush instead of Obama must in reality be supporting what the past 8 years have yielded. McBush will be more of Bush. More lies, more war, more intrusion in our lives, less privacy, less security for your jobs, the economy and what else did I miss? At 3 am in the morning the only thing McBush will be doing is trying to pee. Already McBush is showing that he is losing touch with the facts in Iraq. He didn’t understand the difference between the Sunni and Shiite and he knows how much about Iraq?Seriously both Clinton and Obama have very similar positions on some issues but knowing the past who do you think will come through? We already know the character of Hillary and we know the track record of her husband and the lies and deceipt that follows them wherever they go.
The primary is a primer for the presidency and so far Obama is head and shoulders above Clinton on every subject. Why do you think so many of the former Clinton associates are on Obama’s bandwagon?

polling

Why don’t you link the poll that said if Hillary wins it will excite the republicans to get out to vote against her. Right now the republicans are disgusted and may stay home but the thought of Hillary will definately get them to go out. I am a republican that changed my registration to democrat so I could vote for Obama. If Hillary is nominated I will either not vote the president or vote for McBush. Having a democratic senate and congress is more important either way.

Bush's Third Term

Any vote for McCain is just a vote to continue the disastrous policies of Bush and his cadre of militaristic morons. You want a third term? Then waste your vote on McCain.

If you want a chance to turn our nation away from the “dark side,” then vote Democratic….no mater who the nominee is.

Anyone who thinks that McCain is a legitimate choice is not a Democat….

Pilt

Sour grapes

Yes, and I posted this story without context, but here’s what I think. I don’t think there are many of these “my candidate or nobody” Democrats out there and I think this media analysis is bunk.

Most Democrats, a large amount of independents, and even some Republicans are likely to vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is in the fall. We’ve had eight years of disastrous policies and people recognize that it’s time for change.

I agree the analysis is wrong

I think people will think hard about voting for McSame (same as bush). Seriously, if you can’t be a real Democrat and support whoever is nominated – then just stay home. Any other excuse is that you enjoyed the last horrible 8 years and want to continue like that.

Democrats Set to Defect to McCain if Clinton Loses

Please do your own research. If you hear a sound bite, find the text of the whole speech or interview. If you listen to Rev. Wright’s entire sermon, it all makes sense. What is has to say is far better then the post 9_11 or psot Katrina comments by the likes of Robertson, Falwell and Buchannen. I am was a Clinton supporter but as I have learned more about both candidates, I am now a Obama supporter. I will never vote for McCain. He is an old warrior who has learned nothing about peace and war. Old soldiers get young soldiers killed.

Experience you can't believe in

All of you looking at Clinton through rose-colored glasses need to open your eyes. She has repeated lie, exaggerated or embellished her experience. If you want to focus on the Rev.Wright comment, then go ahead. And if any of you can honestly same that you haven’t damned America at one point or another in your life (“damn gas prices, damn interest rates, damn corrupt officials, etc.)then you are less than honest. And it was probably a “mis-statement” (althouth not nearly as inaccurate as Clinton’s mis-statement on landing under sniper fire) on Rev. Wrights part when he said America introduced Aids into the black community. He probably meant syphilis. There is DOCUMENTED evidence that in the 1940’s or 1950’s black men were deliberately injected with the syphilis virus to see the affects of the disease. Clinton is using the same tatics with race that the Republicans used with Iraq – FEAR. She’s playing on the traditional fear of white people but I’m one white woman who isn’t falling for her lies. And just as a wake up call, what makes you think that Obama supporters would vote for Hillary if she wins the nomination? I know I won’t, and I know a lot of others who won’t. So all that Clinton has accomplished is securing that we’ll have a Republican in the White House for another four years. It was Clinton who started all of this dirty play and handed the Republicans all the ammunition that they’ll need on a silver platter for the general election and now we’ll all suffer for it. Once again, Good Job, Hillary!!

You're a fool then

You sure sound like the Nader voters of 2000. Regardless of who I vote for in the primary, I will wholeheartedly support whoever the Democratic nominee is.

We are seeing more Obama supporters posting here at KP who are getting very shrill about the Clintons. Frankly, I doubt you’re winning many voters, if any, over to your side with the vitriol.

pd

National security is the bottom line

I can’t vote for Obama – I just don’t think he will keep us safe. National security is the bottom line. I trust Hillary Clinton – and it gives comfort that over 30 high-ranking flag officers in the militaty feel the same way. If I can’t have Hillary, at least John McCain has good Commander in Chief credentials, much as I disagree with him on other things.

Not saying that at all

I just think all the Obama people need to just be quiet and stop saying that Hilary should get out of the race cuz she is dividing the party. Would you say that to Obama? HE should get out of the race because HE is dividing the party. He really isn’t that far ahead of her and they are even in the polls when put up against McCain. Why do they keep saying she should give up! Obviously she has a pretty good chance still and her determination is quite admirable. If her last name weren’t Clinton, you would agree. But you all drank the hate Hilary kool aid didn’t you? What a drag to be so impressionable. Better be careful in life if you are so trusting or you are in for a big rude awakening.

The difference is

Senator Clinton can’t win the nomination at this point unless she somehow turns the superdelegates her way. Senator Obama is winning in pledged delegates, popular votes and number of states won. If you want the nomination decided in the proverbial smokey room so be it, but that will tear the party apart. If you want the Repugs back on top for the next 10 or 12 years keep hoping Hillary can win.

As for the Reverend Wright situation and all of you who are decrying Obama’s explanation, perhaps you should see Republican Governor Mike Huckabee’s (remember him?) take on it. Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTFLOu8fjxU

Please understand the importance of electing a Democrat to the presidency this year. Regardless of who you back in the primary, please, come November, vote for whoever the nominee is. The very survival of our country could depend upon it.

defect

How can any good democrat defect to McBush if Hillary does not win. How many lies (mispeaks) does one have to hear to realize that she is not fit to be president? Not leaving Bill when he was found carrying on with Monica because of love is further evidence of her inability to lead. She allowed emotion to overule what any upfront respectable person would do in public life and that is cut the cord. It’s not like it was one time but the philandering with Bill has gone on for years and there are some very serious accusations of which Hillary knew and not leaving makes her an accomplice.

Lets talk about the mortgage crisis in particular. Obama is on record as having contacted Bernanke a year ago about this mess. Hillary is just catching up.Where was she?

I can Vote for whom ever I wish!!!!!!!!!!

If the Media’s darling Nobama wins.
Florida Democrats will vote for Mcain!
You dont put a rookie in during the United States most difficult hours.
My Democratic party is not making good choices.
I can wait another 4 years for a good Canidate.
With Mcain we can sit in the damage for another 4 years no big deal.
Same circus, same clowns, same magic tricks to impress first time voters.
New Magician, same old tricks in the newest ways.

Regrettably to get in the

Regrettably to get in the media, you have to say or do something controversial.Preachers know that to grab the attention of a mind wandering audience,in your sermon you build a figurative bridge, build a figurative fire, then destroy the figurative bridge if necessary so that people can examine their options.Your sermon soaked in prayer backed up with scripture from the Bible then has got their attention.
Julius Caesar, history tells us, once did something similar by ordering his army the centurions etc to burn their ships on the shores of a foreign
land.Julius Caesar by issuing such a command inspired a fighting spirit and loyalty in his men to fight so that they could win the battle and win the war and go home to their loved ones.
How does that relate to Reverend Jeremiah Wright? As an individual, he may have by deliberate intention focused the media mindset on the stark realities of prejudice.Racial prejudice, religious prejudice, bigotism, bitterness, hatred, malice, unfair media coverage, soundbites and deliberate mind manipulation in this high tech society and the need for reconciliation, truth, self examination, forgiveness, confession, repentance and constructive engagement in this present society.
Will it damage Barak? Who knows. America needs to have its own TRUTH COMMISSION. Will America have one? Who knows? Some people are honest and others are not so honest.
There is strong undercurrents of a reality check up. Why?. Look back to KATRINA, HURRICANE KATRINA.
The ostrich likes to bury it’s head in the sand and the ostrich some say thinks as long as its head is buried in the sand , it’s vision is impaired and
restricted and in this ostrich mindset what it cannot see the ostrich believes in it it’s ostrich birdbrain is not there? The ostrich needs a reality check up.
America is a great country. America is an IMMIGRANT BASED COUNTRY. That is why it is great. The beacon of hope of democracy. The open forum of democracy allows freedom of speech because America believes all men are created equal. That is on paper . That is in black and white, but some do not accept that because of the way they were brought up.
SOME OF THEIR TEACHERS MAY HAVE told them that some people are inferior to them and other people are superior. That is wrong teaching.tHAT IS WHY THERE IS SO MUCH CONTROVERSY TO DAY. The truth will set you free.
South Africa under NELSON MANDELA had a time of TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION. Things that worried and hurt and disturbed and offended many people had to be talked about. PEACEFULLLY, TRUTHFULLY, IN AN ATMOSPHERE OF RECONCILIATION WITHOUT RETRIBUTION,UNDER THE BANNER OF FORGIVENESS AND TRUE PEACE OF MIND.
GOD BLESS AMERICA. GOD BLESS TRUTH AND GOD BLESS RECONCILIATION.
All this mudslinging politics and slinging back mud, and negative below the belt teleads is no good. Look how much money candidates are blatantly spending to get elected when there is a food crisis in AFRICA AND DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WORLD. But people are so concerned with their own point of view they will forget people are dying without food, without democracy, without hope in other nations.
Maybe REVEREND WRIGHT MAY BE WRONG IN THE WAY HE SAYS WHAT HE SAYS, but maybe we need to take a GOOD LONG LOOK at ourselves.Maybe,it is time for self examination .Time for honest self judgement. Is it right to think about self first and others last? Is unfair treatment of minorities a paper excercise that does not mean nothing under our roofs? Are we really christians or make believers? Do we believe in God or are we apostate? GOD HAVE MERCY ON US ALL?.
