DeWeese reminds voters he is not accused of any crimes

As a state grand jury investigation continues, House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese is urging voters to remember he hasn’t been accused of any crimes related to alleged widespread corruption in the Democratic Caucus he heads.

In his July campaign newsletter, DeWeese, D-Greene County, tells voters the “grand jury findings did not contain any information that Bill knew about the behavior.”

“It’s a consummate piece of damage control,” said Christopher Borick, a political science professor at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. He added: “There’s nothing I’ve seen tying him to the criminal activity, but the criminal activity took place under his nose.”

DeWeese’s campaign literature explains that DeWeese leads a staff of nearly 900 and an office that answers 30,000 constituent requests a year. “He believes that leaders who become mired in administrative details paralyze an organization,” the newsletter says.

Inept or Corrupt

As I see it, there are two possibilities:

1. DeWeese knew about Bonusgate and is trying to keep himself of of trouble. In which case he should be subject to prosecution or worse.

2. DeWeese truly knew nothing about what his staff were doing. In which case he has failed in his responsibilities as a manager of the Democratic caucus. In the business world, he would probably already have been sent packing since it happend on his watch.

Bill, wich are you: inept or corrupt?

The rank and file Democratic legislators should be telling him to hang it up and not be leader of the caucus – It could drag down their own re-election bids. Unfortunatly, the rank and file legislators (Of both parties) seem to fear their leaders more than the voters.

corrupt

It is interesting how DeWeese is pointing to his 2 and a half year Marine stint as to the reason why he delegated to others….if you read between the lines, he is saying that his Marine training got him into this mess!
He takes credit for everything and I mean EVERYTHING that he possibly can for political gain and we are to believe that he didn’t know that his closest staff and best buddy, Veon were neck high in corruption?! Give me a break. Inept or corrupt? Corrupt.

30 + years old training

He left the Marines in 1975. He is still using 30 + year old training that they gave him. Mayby I could blame my failures on the training I got in Kindergarten.

I believe we have a

I believe we have a presidential candidate claiming his time in a prison camp makes him qualified to take the office of Commander in Chief. Kerry tried the same thing. Eisenhower was the last politician with any real military claim.

Honor and Accountability

If this former Marine had any honor, he would resign.
His statement that he did not know effectively is a confession of dereliction of duty. With everything in the Grand Jury report, any competent administrator had to be aware that things were not right. If DeWeese himself were not a crook, then he nevertheless is guilty of a gross dereliction of duty. When this is combined with the pay raise fiasco that he helped to orchestrate in a cynical and misguided effort to defeat Constitutional democracy, his hanging on shows that he considers government to be all about himself. I’m just waiting for Arlen Specter to give Deweese the same type of encouragement that Specter gave to Larry Craig—hang in there for your own sake and screw the public!
