A Republican Party leader filed court papers Monday aimed at getting Libertarian Party presidential candidate Bob Barr taken off the Pennsylvania ballot. In a petition filed in Commonwealth Court, Victor Stabile alleged that the Libertarians misled people who signed their ballot petitions because they listed Rochelle Etzel of Clarion County as the presidential candidate even after the national party picked Barr at its convention in May.
Barr is a former GOP congressman from Georgia who some Republicans fear could hurt presumptive GOP nominee John McCain in a close election this year. The Libertarian Party formally substituted Barr’s name on the Pennsylvania ballot just last week.
Stabile, the Cumberland County GOP chairman and a Harrisburg lawyer, acknowledged that state election laws allow such substitutions as long as they are made within the allotted time, but said he thinks this case “crosses the line.”

Keep Barr on the Ballot!
Barr should remain on the ballot. The Republicans and Democrats haven’t even had their conventions yet to formally choose their candidate. Should they also be taken off the ballot?
McCain's cowardice
Is McCain afraid to face Bob Barr on the ballot? This is the slimy, underhanded trick of a coward, and a typical politician. McCain himself objected to these tactics when Bush used them on McCain in 2000, and now McCain has become just like Bush.
Deja Vu All Over Again
Of course, the last time around, it was the Kerry forces trying to knock Ralph Nader off the ballot. This is politics as usual, not something peculiar to one side or the other, and not validly ascribed to “McCain’s Cowardice.” It also is wrong. It should be easier, not more difficult, for people to get on the ballot, even hypocritical, egotistical nut cases like Barr or Nader.
