Ignore Spat with Clinton, McCain's the Real Foe

Sen. Barack Obama took shots at likely Republican nominee John McCain on foreign and energy policy yesterday and disagreed with prominent Democrats who are fretting that the fight for the presidential nomination has dragged on too long.

“I think it is a good thing, it’s a healthy thing, that so many people are passionate,” Obama said during an evening rally at Muhlenberg College here. “I think Democrats will be unified when this whole thing is over – I am absolutely convinced of that. . . . Whatever the differences between Sen. Clinton and myself, they pale in comparison to the differences between either of us and John McCain.”

His remarks were at odds with calls from some of his backers, including Vermont Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, for Clinton to drop out of the race.

Smart politics

Good for Obama. He’s exactly right, McCain in the WH is a scary. The first thing McCain will do is start a war with Iran. Whatever each candidate’s supporters think of the other candidate, we can all agree McCain is the wrong person for the president.

pd

I totally agree with you!

McCain is the enemy not Obama or Clinton. I am thinking of wearing not only an Obama political pin but also a Clinton pin. I am trying to tell Democrats that I will
support either nominee even if Obama is my preference. How awful that we have to battle Democrats as well as Republicans to get a great President!

So inconsistent

Didn’t Obama just the other day compare the primary race to the “Bataan death march” (and insult WWII vets in the process)? Which is it, a healthy thing or a death march?

Where

Where did you hear that, Rush? I heard Obama plainly say on television that Hillary should be allowed to campaign as long as she wants. Not once have I heard Obama denigrate Hillary’s campaign despite the underhanded tricks and lies she is guilty of.

So inconsistent

Oh please, like Hillary hasn’t said things that are spinnable. Bottom line: I will vote for Obama in the Primary, AND I will vote for Hillary is she ends up with the nomination. McCain is the WORST option. McSame = Bush III and that is Bush League.

absolutely right

McCain is the candidate both Democrats should be going after. If Obama and Clinton spend the next 5 weeks using their spotlight to point out McCain’s disastrous economic, foreign policy, and environmental record, his ties to lobbyists, etc., it will do them both good.

Yes. Tie McCain to Bush with barbed wire!

Indeed. The Dems have to get Bush=McCain spin into every news cycle.

Mr. McCain is certainly

Mr. McCain is certainly preferable to a government takeover of medicine. No one goes to Canada for an operation, but lots of Canadians come here. Similarly, with England.
Liberals seem unable to learn that their policies kill people and make life less pleasant for all.
But, that may be their goal.
Beneath every Obama and Clinton beats the heart of Robert Mugabe.

Are you saying our "system" is working?

Of course people come here. We are a massive country with tons of great med schools and a for-profit health system that makes sure the Docs get paid VERY well. Hence, the hotshot Docs are here, not in Canada. But I also notice that Vytorin hadn’t even been approved for use in Canada, while our wonderful system has allowed millions of doses of the stuff to flow into people’s blood streams. Yea, the world is looking to us for leadership on this issue!

And you think this is working? Note this study;

An average of 195,000 people in the USA died due to potentially preventable, in-hospital medical errors in each of the years 2000, 2001 and 2002, according to a new study of 37 million patient records that was released today by HealthGrades, the healthcare quality company.

From small business owners (many of whom are shutting down because they can’t afford health care) to large corporations (who are struggling under its enormous financial weight) our health care system is BROKEN.

I’m not saying the Canadian or UK systems are perfect…but to imagine that ours is anything but a train wreck is disingenuous.

Pilt

medical system

yeah, well, for one thing auto companies have moved to onterio so they don’t have to pay medical benefits and people who live in Canada or European counties with government coverage of medical costs live longer. We have a great system for the rich.

talking points

These are all right wing talking points made famous by none other than Rush. If things are so bad in Europe where they have socialized medicine do you hear any clamoring for change? NO ! I just came back from the Bahammas (Nasau) where they have socialized medicine. The driver of the tour bus said when he goes to the hospital he pays just $12.00. There may be a wait to be seen but if you have something serious “they see you immediatly” . So much for the horror stories from the right. If it’s done right it works well.

Actually, Obama is the real foe

Lies and bullying –
Obama’s ad says he doesn’t take money from oil & gas, while some of his biggest contribution “aggregators” are the CEOs of oil & gas companies!
Obama’s call to Gov. Rendell to tell him what to say and his supporters’ harrassment of Mayor Nutter (not to mention all of us in the blogosphere) show he will do anything to win.
My 1st choice: Hillary Clinton; my 2d choice: John McCain

individuals

You can’t expect Obama to look at everyones resume when they contribute. These are individuals not corporations and if the big wigs in the corporations are willing to contribute on their own they know something you don’t because the truth of the matter corporations don’t pick sides when they contribute. They give to both sides so they always win. When individuals give they usually only give to one side. I thought you knew that.

Are misguided Democrats throwing the election?

Who would have thought we’d have to worry that Democrats would throw the election to Bush III by supporting McCain?

unlikely

It’s an unlikely event but what matters more is getting a dem congress and senate. McBush can twiddle his thumbs till the cows come home because he will be neutered in such an event.

I hope you are right!

I get so angry to hear that some pseudo-Democrats will vote for McCain if their favorite Democratic candidate does not become the Democratic nominee. I hope you are correct that at least the Democrats will get control of both chambers in Congress with enough legislators to prevent the Repuglicans from stopping most Democratic initiatives. I’d love to see “McBush” unable to continue much of Bush’s disastrous agenda.

I think they're mostly trolls...

I refuse to believe that any self-respecting Democrat would vote for McCain. And I fully believe that most of the people who are talking about doing this are simply GOP trolls, intent on dividing us…or making us think twice about our Democratic brethren.

No one who is a registered Dem, unless they’ve had some sort of blunt force trauma to the head, is going to cast a ballot for Bush’s third term…which is precisely what a vote for McCain is.

Let’s get smart about all this and realize when we’re being gamed.

Piltdown Man

Great analysis!

You were even more blunt than I was! I loved your comment. Hopefully, it will wake up some pseudo-Democrats to the stupidity of voting for McBush.

“yeah, well, for one

“yeah, well, for one thing auto companies have moved to onterio so they don’t have to pay medical benefits and people who live in Canada or European counties with government coverage of medical costs live longer”

Poll after poll also says they are more happier with their lives in general. They typically enjoy longer vacations , have better health care and don’t worry about losing their status as middle class citizens as most have job protection, and know that a health crisis is not likely to put ones family on the street.

Can’t believe anyone with

Can’t believe anyone with a three digit IQ is dumb enough to believe in all the enviro problems that Hillary and Barrack go on and on about.
We need a president who won’t be swayed by fraud and hysteria so big business can prosper. Really BIG OIL, in Arabia, must be giving simple-minded Democratic office holders billions to keep us from cutting out their cash flow by drilling in the polar wastelands.
They love it when we waste money on kiddie-power like wind and bio-fuels.
There are two kinds of Democrats, the ones too dumb to figure that out and the kind who get money from profiteers.
The other Americans will vote McCain.
