Setting aside the obvious fact that the media runs over Hillary on a daily basis – this week’s New Republic cover story is entitled “The Voices in Her Head” – it does say something important that Obama isn’t predicted to win tomorrow even after significantly outspending Clinton.
In a month mostly devoid of primaries and caucuses other than a series of contests on March 4, Mr. Obama spent just over $30 million in March, down from the $43 million he spent in February. His large bankroll has allowed him to significantly outspend Mrs. Clinton in television advertising in Pennsylvania, which votes on Tuesday, more than doubling how much she has spent, according to the most recent figures available from Campaign Media Analysis Group.

Name recognition plus plus
Obama took on TWO candidates, one of whom is an ex-president! Plus a 15-year Clinton campaign in the state. Plus Rendell’s political machine! Plus Scaife and his own machine! Plus had to go against the ‘race’ factor (Yeah! someone just told me that Obama did very well among white men!) If one could tally those heavy influences with the amount he spent, I’m sure he would clearly come out as the underdog.
I don’t know whether you will my comment stand, the previous one I entered is no more, but at least you know! In those circumstances, I think Senator Obama did rather well. His supporters should be very proud of him.
Hillary = Scaife?
Nope. I don’t buy it. Hillary and Bill do not equal Scaife. That’s ridiculous and if we took a comment down it’s because you said something equally as ridiculous. Plus we give a lot more credibility to comments left by registered users.
But you’re right, Obama faced a formidable machine and by the end of the night I think we’ll see that he performed well under hostile circumstances.
Misunderstanding?
Greg, I never said that Hillary=Scaife! I said that one must add his clout to Hillary’s campaign, which only added to the force against which Obama had to go. Scaife endorsed her, didn’t he? I presume that he has minions around town that had been set to work for her campaign. Otherwise what good would he be? As a matter of fact, the Scaife machine seems to be working at this very moment at undermining Obama’s candidacy (see here).
As for registering, I’m sorry I did not do so before entering comments. I was just passing by. If ever I come back, I’ll make sure to register.
Thanks for the feedback, even if it was a little bit rude!
P.S. Congratulations for your win tonight (I take it you are a Clinton supporter.)
Just playing devils
Just playing devils advocate a bit. Sorry if I was a bit rude, but I’ll just say that I’ve run the site for four years now and the number of “I LOVE OBAMA” comments or “HILLARY SUCKS” comments have been overwhelming over the past few weeks.
Our editors have had a tough time keeping up and we’ve started getting quicker at unpublishing comments. Sorry if yours got caught up with the rest.
I understand
About those comments. Sometimes, you’ve just got to, you know … brush ‘em off :-)
Nice blog! I shall very likely be back.
Love to have you
We’d love to have you – and I’m not usually that rude. :-)
