Poll Shows McCain Surging in Pennsylvania

Senator McCain now leads Mayor Giuliani by 16 percentage points.
A year ago, Republican presidential candidate John McCain “was being left for dead” by a lot of voters, said Pennsylvania GOP spokesman Mike Barley.

But if there’s anything certain in politics, it’s that change is likely. And the past six months have shown a remarkable reversal of political fortune for the U.S. senator from Arizona, especially in the Keystone State.

According to a new Franklin & Marshall College Poll released yesterday, Mr. McCain has leapfrogged comfortably ahead of his nearest competitor in Pennsylvania for the GOP nomination, Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Mr. McCain now leads the former New York City mayor by 30 percent to 14 percent. That’s a reversal from the last F&M poll in August, when Mr. Giuliani led Mr. McCain by 32 percent to 19 percent. Trailing them are former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee at 12 percent, actor/politician Fred Thompson at 8 percent and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 7 percent.

McCain comeback

The big story nationally right now seems to be a “McCain comeback” ... and it seems to extend to Pennsylvania. What do you think – is McCain gonna win this thing? Is Giuliani irrelevant at this point?

doesn’t matter! pa will

doesn’t matter! pa will be in the democratic column for sure!

Democratic Because

PA will be in the Democratic column because the Republican leaders in the state have ignored the rank and file and are only looking for the interests of the leaders.

National or state leaders

I’m wondering if you mean national or state leaders, or both? Because if you’re talking state leaders, I’d argue that the Dems are doing a pretty good job of ignoring their constituencies as well.

Both Parties

I was thinking of the State leaders. And yes, the only thing that may save the Republicans is the way the Democrats have been running their own ship.

PA Republican Primary

My fellow PA Republicans

There is a true republican running for president. A man who will reduce spending, reduce the deficit and reduce taxes. Remember those republican ideas about smaller government? His name is DR. RON PAUL. Your vote in this primary shouldn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth. Vote your conscience, vote based on principle, vote for a REPUBLICAN. I believe that if you do this, I truly believe that you will choose Dr. Paul. Learn more about the good doctor at RonPaul2008.com. He has raised nearly 30 million dollars so far for his campaign. Come find out what the media is so scared to tell you, Dr. Paul is a statesman who will govern this country to prosperity, not a politician who will pander for your vote and lead us to bankruptcy.

“doesn’t matter! pa

“doesn’t matter! pa will be in the democratic column for sure!”

U Dork!

Senator Thompson is still

Senator Thompson is still the best candidate. Half the people who think being flaky is something to be proud of voted for Ross Perot and gave us two Bill Cliinton terms are behind McCain.
The even flakier half is behind Ron Paul.
Mr. Thompson is more rational, more consistent, and more conservative.
But, he’s too much of an adult for many of the children.

Let’s see. The economy

Let’s see. The economy is in free fall with little end in sight. Oil prices are at historic highs. We’re involved in what appears to be a permanent war in the Middle East. The rich get richer, the rest of us hold on for dear life. Government spending (see “War” above) is totally out of control. Our nation’s reputation across the globe has been sullied.

And “two Clinton terms” were a bad thing?

And we’re supposed to elect a clueless lummox just because he has a resonant voice and Presidential bearing?

Think again.

Pilt

Almost as chicken littles

Almost as chicken littles out there as flakes. Those who love problems find them, and gravitate toward other pessimists.
McCain has said no more drilling on a few hundred acres of endless artic wastelands, and really hasn’t ever done much complain and stick us with McCain-Finegold, the “incumbent protection” law to limit free speech.
Real hero.
