Gov. Ed Rendell got off the sidelines of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination Wednesday, entering the fray on the side of longtime ally Hillary Clinton.Rendell’s endorsement gives Clinton a symbolic boost two weeks before primary voters in neighboring Delaware and New Jersey go to the polls Feb. 5 in the tightly contested battle between Clinton and Barack Obama.
And if the nomination is still in doubt in late April, Rendell’s formidable political organization could help Clinton take delegate-rich Pennsylvania.
Rendell said at a news conference in City Hall that he doesn’t think it will come to that.
‘‘For the goals I know the people of Pennsylvania and the people of our tri-state community share — the things that are important to them — there is no question Hillary Clinton will be the best president to help us carry out and reach those goals,’‘ he said.
Standing with Clinton and Mayor Michael Nutter, Rendell touted Clinton’s universal health care plan, her focus on promoting renewable energy and plans for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, as well as former President Bill Clinton’s record on the economy.

Rendell's DC parachute
Everyone knows how much the Guv LOVES Harrisburg and the General Assembly. His being tapped for Secretary of Energy under Clinton is what he dreams about at night.
He may also dream about giant Spanish speaking Cheeseteaks sold at Geno’s. Hmmm…
What are the Vegas odds on CBK being a strangely good steward of the Commonwealth?
Zero odds
I have no faith in CBK. She is a joke! Her odds of being a good steward of the Commonwealth are zero!
politics
Nobody is going to listen to you Mr. Rendell about who should win the state of Pennsylvania for president of the united states of america.
PS. I’m white and i’m voting for Barack Obama on April 22, 2008. So stop your crying.
DC Parachute
Gov. Rendell really doesn’t need a DC parachute. He is gov of one of largest states in the Union and enjoys the Democratic strengths of Pittsburgh and Phila. Ridge made that mistake of giving in to a President for a job that no one in their right mind would have taken and only an outside Washingtoner would have agreed to. But Rendell’s stout support for Clinton is well based in the fact that Pittsburgh and Phila. will both go for Clinton and that is where Rendell’s support is. All that open space in between Pitt and Phila is akin to all that open space between a pair of ears that still listens to the far right conservative…..I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stray. So yes Rendell is playing politics, but that is what he does for a living. That is also what every American has been doing since the 1st primary. Vote for who you really believe in and feel good when you walk out of the booth, no matter who it is. Thank God we are free enough to do it.
Rendell HATES Harrisburg.
Give me a break. Fast Food Eddie hates the legislature and is a lame duck. Did I mention that he hates the legislature…which happens to be filled with rural, conservative white guys and gals? Yep, he sure doesn’t like them one bit.
He cannot wait to bolt the Burg.
rendell is a known racist.
rendell is a known racist. he was the DA of philly back in the 80s and was involved in the bombing of the MOVE house in west philly. that bombing killed 11 people, including kids. he has done nothing to rectify his part of the problem. i don’t trust him AT ALL. so if hillary is accepting his support just so she can win pennsylvania… then i cannot support her. it’s impossible.
bad move, hillary. there are plenty of black folks out here who will never forget what happened to MOVE! we’ll never forget the name rendell. it’s a bad move to have that name connected with your own.
Rendell has Known Hillary for 50 years
Did I hear Rendell correctly a few weeks ago? He said he has known Hillary for 50 years. I think she and he are just barely 60 years old? SO, he knew her as a 10 year old? Isn’t he from NYC originally, and she raised in Chicago? How is it that they have known each other for 50 years?
