Those living in glass houses....

...once again ignoring the glass house rule, Pennsylvania GOP chairman Rob Gleason throws a rock at Barack Obama, saying the Democratic presidential candidate is wrong and incredibly foolish for being willing to meet with leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea.
Arlen Specter agrees with Barack Obama on meeting with the heads of Syria, Iran Venezuela and other countries hostile to the U.S.

“Meeting with the leaders of these nations without preconditions would be incredibly foolish and a position only a person with Obama’s inexperience would try to defend,” Gleason said in one of those increasingly regular statements that provide us with much fodder early in the morning. “Plain and simple, Obama’s stance is incredibly foolish and leaves his most glaring weakness, his lack of foreign relations experience, vulnerable to criticism.”

So is Republican U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter just as incredibly foolish?

“I had some good talks with that guy (former Palestinian leader Yasser) Arafat and (Libyan leader Momar) Ghadafi and (former Cuban leader Fidel) Castro,” Pennsylvania’s Senior Senator said Wednesday during an interview.

When was Arlen Specter

elected President of the United States? I must have missed that.

The President implements foreign policy. Specter or any other Senator can meet with any one they want, but it’s totally meaningless.

By the way, what were the results of Specter’s “good talks” with Arafat, Ghadafi, and Castro? Did he change their minds? Did they denounce terrorism or release their political prisoners? Did they suddenly want to be friends as a result of Specter’s impressive diplomatic skills?

Results of Specter's "Good Talks"

Specter had one of his talks with Saddam Hussein, who invaded Kuwait not long after. Other results are plenty of photo ops with supporters of world terrorism, squash games in exotic locations and shopping trips for Mrs. Specter. I cannot think of anything else, but I am sure that I am missing something.

specter and obama

I think the difference is that Specter is not President and has not given anything away is his various meeting with foreign leaders. By contrast Obama appears to believe that he can smooth talk foreign leaders into concessions without applying adequate military or other pressure to do so. There is a very fine op-ed in the NY Times today about the danger of “talking” without adequate preparation and adequate toughness.

Israel defies GOP, begins "appeasement" w/ Syria

Or at least according to the wisdom (or lack thereof) from Mr. Gleason.

I suggest he storm the Knesset, screaming “traitor” and pointing fingers.

Oh wait from his comments it sounds like he might try to do just that.
