California sued the federal government today to force a decision about whether the state can impose the nation’s first greenhouse gas emission standards for cars and light trucks.More than a dozen other states, including Pennsylvania, are poised to follow California’s lead if it is granted the waiver from federal law, presenting a challenge to automakers who would have to adapt to a patchwork of regulations.
The state’s lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., was expected after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed last spring to take legal action.
“Our future depends on us taking action on global warming right now,” Schwarzenegger said during a Capitol news conference. “There’s no legal basis for Washington to stand in our way.”

Detroit builds all cars to CA standards
If you go to any car buying site, you’ll see all the cars are basically built to California’s emission standards. It’s simply not cost effective to for the automakers to build cars to lower standards since cars can and are routinely shipped everywhere for sale and resale.

Agreed, pd...
The general momentum on this issue is headed in California’s direction (as it should, I might add). If California’s complaint isn’t resolved soon, it will lead to a nightmarish patchwork of confusion between auto manufacturers and states concerning standards. As the story notes, the Clear Air Act includes a provision that allows individual states to implement California’s standards, if they are deemed “tougher” than that of the federal government. A good number of states did follow California’s lead. Legally, the EPA doesn’t have a leg to stand on; they are simply dragging their bureaucratic feet. Will improved emission standards end the “threat” of global warming? No, but it’s certainly a common-sense action that will make automobiles across the country more energy-efficient and save taxpayers a bundle in environmental clean-up costs in the future. Those reasons alone should be enough to motivate the EPA.
Need any more proof that
Need any more proof that environmentalists hate us?
Love the way
States just jump onboard without asking their residents first, these kind of actions should only be allowed via a referendum or congressional approval; seriously which resident is going to be ok with a state inspection bill of 2 grand or more every year to keep their 2 year or older vehicle compliant..?
Look at who heads the EPA in those states (Including PA), they’re all radicals that only squeaked their way in the door because the congress in those states were afraid to take a stand against them, fearing the whole “it’s for our children” rebuttal – yup that line, the one that’s always used to ram something/someone thru unhindered.
I find it amazing how all this EP has gone nuts based on nothing more then theory.
Might as well turn the U.S. into vacation property, practically all industrial business has moved to Hong Kong/Korea/Taiwan due to these Radical EP individuals and their strongarm legislation.
Look into other countries with very strict EP laws, they have no industrial base whatsoever just office space, sooo where is your TV/Microwave/Computer components/MP3 player and so on an so on going to be manufactured??
What year did the great industrial exodus begin in the U.S.??
What correlation does that beginning have with the EPA?
You're the radical
You’re the one who sounds like a radical to me.
