U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy’s book “Taking the Hill” goes on sale today. While some are looking forward to this “much anticipated” release….Philadelphia Magazine panned it as “rather banal” and lacking sophistication. “[T]here’s hardly an interesting idea of observation in the entire book,” notes the review, which rated the book a C+.
We’d be remiss, not to mention the fact that we’re pretty sure we’d hear from Michael Brady of the Majority Accountability Project, if we didn’t repeat the conservative group’s contention that Murphy skirted House ethics rules by accepting a $100,000 book advance just days before entering office.

Give me a Break!
I coughed up the $25 to buy Murphy’s book because I wanted to make my own judgement about it. What a waste of time. I would have been better off listening to the reviews. He paints himself as an underdog hero of sorts that made his way through the trenchs all alone and won a congressional campaign where the “GOP machine” (his words, not mine) try to take him down at every step. He even goes so far to say that his own party was not there for him at times. Was that before of after moveon.org bundled their checks and gave you the largest donation of your entire campaign! Lying and misinforming the public will be your downfall Mr. Murphy.
I couldn’t agree with you
I couldn’t agree with you more!
Sounded Boring
Yeah, no offense to the guy, but it sounded like a real snoozer of a book. I might stop by a bookstore tomorrow to page through, but probably won’t shell out any cash for it…
What a joke!! A 35 year
What a joke!!
A 35 year old politician’s memoirs??? Sounds self-centered to me, not to mention the ethical dilemma involved with accepting $100,000 right before taking office.
Murphy basically
Murphy basically “john-kerried” his way into office by spending the absolute minimum amount of time (three months?) in Iraq, not to mention the fact he was simply a GREEN ZONE lawyer, which is the equivalent of being in the USO.
Murphy’s main job in Iraq was to help local Iraqi’s who had filed lawsuits against the US military for damages to their property. He also drove dignitaries to the Baghdad airport.
What a scammer this guy Murphy is. And yet the local lib-dominated newspaper made him out to be this Green-Beret type who single handedly took villages stuffed with alQaeda operatives.
It was truly sickening what the paper did to the good and decent previous Congressman, Mike Fitzpatrick!
These are really just direct mail....
...pieces, packaged differently.
Remember when Santorum’s wife wrote a book (or were their two?) Anyway, the idea is to get something on the shelves that appears to have more gravitas than you average three-page direct mail piece, something that appears to be “good enough to have been published.”
No one makes money off these things, nor do they expect to. What they do expect is that “their guy” will appear more impressive than they likely are. Bottom line; it’s just advertising…
Pilt
Advertising indeed!
Advertising indeed! Politician books are not big sellers especially when the guy is 35 years old. When was this guy elected to office…when he was 6 years old? He really can’t tell us anything the average American doesn’t already know.
