White House Announces Bush Administration to Leave a Record Budget Deficit of $482 Billion.

Since January when we began our campaign for the 5th District seat in the US Congress, I’ve consistently stressed that my biggest concern is the fiscal mess that has happened in Washington. This record $482 billion deficit is coupled with a record debt of $9.5 trillion.  read more »

PA-05: Rick Vilello Picks Up Major Labor Endorsement!

Well, here’s the labor announcement I was promising yesterday. Needless to say, everyone here at the campaign is very excited. I may be more excited than most as I used to work for the NH AFL-CIO and I’ve always been very interested in labor issues. It’s actually one of the reasons I wanted to work on Rick’s campaign. It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one who recognizes his commitment to the working people of this district. Follow me below the fold to see the press release.

Anyone can get health care in the United States. Just ask George W. Bush. Last year in Cleveland, he had this to say to the 47 million Americans without health care coverage:

“I mean, people have access to health care in America. After all, you just go to an emergency room.”

Union numbers are up in PA

Reversing a decades-long downward trend, the percentage of the American workforce in unions edged up last year, the U.S. Labor Department reported.

The change was minuscule – a tenth of 1 percentage point, from 12.0 to 12.1 – barely statistically significant. But for the labor movement, which is starved for any good news, even the tiniest upward blip is cause for encouragement.

Locally, Pennsylvania and Delaware saw gains in union membership and density.

New Jersey’s membership continued to slip despite big union wins among dealers in Atlantic City’s casinos and among professional and administrative staff at Rutgers University.  read more »
